Description "The happy days"

Inspired by a kickass music piece from the age of the Sun King, Louis XIV: [link]

CAUTION: Contains fiction.

In the foreground, the heir to the French throne, Monsieur le Dauphin, Louis Francois de Bourbon, the oldest son of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, in the age of 19, shortly before the outbreak of the Turmoil of the Revolution that swept away one of the most magnificent courts Europe has ever known. The Dauphin happens to be my rpg character and I'm damn proud of him *sob sob* Until now, there was no picture in my gallery, that'd tribute him in the way he deserves The ROYAL way.

Unlike his relatives, the Dauphin shows an "unhealthy" passion for uniforms. Here, he is wearing a Colonel's uniform of his infantry regiment- Regiment du Dauphin, blue sash of the Order of the Holy Spirit, (Spanish) Order of the Golden Fleece pinned to the lapel and scarlet sash of the Military Order of St. Louis.

As befits a princeling, he's spoilt( but just a biiiit xD ) and proud, additionally convinced of the divine nature of his dynasty's right to rule. Well mannered and courteous, especially for women, though he keeps most people, not excluding the mightiest of aristocrats at a distance (This trait he definitely shares with his Habsburg relatives).

The Dauphin is a throuroughly educated man, that knows most classical as well as enlightened authors. Understanding that France is in an urgent need for reforms, he is way more firm and determined than his father, Louis XVI. This may explain why he was more popular amongst the Parisian mob than the rest of the court (Though the Revolution soon changed this, as the Dauphin was ready to drown it in blood, claiming that the riots are a slap in the face for the monarchy).

In the background, the temple of love in the petit Trianon's park. Favourite servant, Orsino, is holding the reins of the Dauphin's horse. I added him (with a turkish-mamluke outfit) to show the splendour and eccentricity of the court of Versailles.

CAUTION 2:

Black servants were nothing unusual on royal and feudal courts. That was the reality of the XVIII century, so please be understanding.

Holy Spirit would be more accurate than Holy Ghost in my opinion. Nice work anyway!

hey, slavery existed around the time. no sweat! it's just keeping in touch with the period. you could say the "slave" is from the saint domingue colony or something.

maybe because this time i tried not to insert any sketch lines imitating fabric folds?I think the uniform makes a more "soft" impression that way and thanks! I really enjoyed drawing this

Wonderful draw, my congratulations!
But I wouldn't be so sure about the magnificency of borbon's court in the last years of XVIII century, because France was real bad economically and common people died by hungry.
Anyway the pic and prince's clothes are magnificent.

well, French catastrophic situation was also due to huge court expenses the people might be dying out of starvation, but the aristocrats? HELL NO! WE NEED THE COURT (btw, pretty sad way of understanding...)

I see no problem with it. As far as I'm concerned, you're being historically accurate. I don't care for this revisionist crap that passes for history these days.

It's a beautiful piece you have, fits the times of back then.

Really!? I felt I wasn't doing enough.

Definitely true about people not reading artists comments, gets sorta funny seeing people making idiots of themselves though.
