Description Prussia. A state attached to an army. Since the mid XVIII century the prussian war machine, carefully taken care of by Frederick the Great has become an example for other countries. But as the old Fritz became older and older, the same thing happened with his army.

At first sight everything remained intact. The troops were well drilled as always, an ordinary soldier afraid more of his officers rather than enemies. However the world went forward, and in 1806, Jena-Auerstaedt happened.

I hate everything about this pic...

Hands up who's fed up with my napoleonic stuff!: D

Does the War of 1812 count as Napoleonic? It was a side-show of that war after all.

I've been starring on this for many evenings, studying every detail you put into this, as I'm used to do in case of such pieces.
I admire your patience and look of this battle artwork! Their faces, I like how they react on what's happening, and the movement you caught in those two falling ones.
You should stop hating this pic, tho I get your feelings there. I myself start to hate a picture on which I'm working too long, or it just seems compeletly wrong to me... but hey, for seeing the brighter side of it, we have watchers and their comments, they see the picture for the first time and their emorions are different from ours! It's the first impression, which is good as I see

The result is inversely proportional to the time i paid to this pic. it took several hours, but the outcome isn't as...well.."epic" as I wanted and i think faces is the weakest part...maybe it's because of tons of people that diverts attention from searching flaws! I used my good "draw-the-first-rank-and-add-as-much-bayonets-in-the-second-and-third-that-everyone's-too-lazy-to-check-method" xDDD Though i appreciate you spent so much time reviewing this pic, I'm very positively suprised, many many thanks mon Empereur!

you never cease to amaze me with your napoleonic work. i kinda want to segue to the period of 1812 to pre-mexican war stuff rather than civil war and 1860s+ indian wars.

One of the most humiliating defeats in German history I reckon,5 prussian casualties to 1 french.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaiser-Conti In reply to XanderXVII [2011-02-24 19:01:39 +0000 UTC]

On the other hand, the French just avenged Rossbach

XanderXVII In reply to Kaiser-Conti [2011-02-24 21:06:15 +0000 UTC]

Yet don't forget that Jena was actually much more effective than Rossbach was(even if Rossbach was a great victory of Frederick the Great).

well, your post does not collide with my own. Until Jena it were the French who could remember a humiliation, and nobody denies that Boney repaid old debts with great style

Auerstaedt is definitely my favourite battle of the Napoleonic Wars... What Davout accomplished there deserves eternal prays... I have no other example of such a feat in military history. And indeed it would have been even greater if that bastard Bernadotte had joined the battle instead of staying iddle the whole time...

Kaiser-Conti In reply to Sirnelson [2011-02-24 19:03:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm not that good with corps numbers and their leaders, but yeah, being heavily outnumbered and still repelling infantry assaults and cavalry charges is a thing to praise

Not only repelling but utterly defeating them... Anyway it's true that the Prussian Army of 1806 was a sham. Too bad it wasn't in 1870...
