I was playing around in Photoshop with the opacity controls and discovered a weird optical illusion which I'd never seen before. So I made it in Flash. Seems to work pretty well if you're about 10-20cm from the monitor as you watch it. It's important that you don't move your eyes. Also don't try to look at the whole thing. Just focus on a point.It usually works for me, though sometimes I don't see it. If it works, it looks like the oval fades away entirely. It's really convincing. Have a go.

Move your eyes around as it fades away instead of actually focusing on a point. Its not a fake. Its an illusion.

it is an illusion, he created a flash of the oval fading, but not completely disappearing. the illusion is that once it stops fading, your mind makes makes it completely disappear, genious.

You are saying that it faded, but if you look at the picture, it faded COMPLETLY, not ONLY FADED A LITTLE. Understand?

Yeah, I understand- back when I commented on this (,which I don't even remember doing either,) I probably didn't know how optical illusions worked or something. I just thought the point was that it would fade, not differentiate amount it faded when stared at. Your comment might've been a lot more useful earlier, but thanks anyway for explaining it

That's so insane. Once you blink or move your eyes, you see the oval again

It disappeared on me completely until I blinked. And then I saw it at the faded state.

Holy crap! If you do start into for too long, it will completely disappear! But if you've looked away or around it the whole time, you'll only see it dimmed in.

I think this is fake, because I turned my head around as I clicked it and when I looked back the oval was faded.

It would, because when you stare you get the negative. When a color and its negative are at the same opacity, they turn a neutral gray color.

Would've been cool except for the fact that's it's not an illusion but rather you doing it. I moved away and played it a couple of times and it just fades after a set time, shame.

What happens is that it fades, but never completely. The illusion is that it fades completely.
