Description Standing in the Midst of Destrucition.

I was on a photosafari in the city with my friends Askild and Asbjørn , when we found this spot. It's an old public bath called "Sentralbadet". This is Askild standing in the middle of the old bath.

The bath was crushed, it was just weird, looked just like a warscene from a movie, or from the news. Giant concrete blocks hanging from the roof, walls missing. Really something.

I had just finished a BW Ilford film and I just had to run and buy another film.

I used, as always a slide film, Agfa RSX II Iso 200 that I got cross processed for special colors. So the colors in this shot aren't manipulated in Photoshop.

Jeg har sett det før, men tydligvis ikke kommentert. Veldig tøffe farger, og jeg liker veldig godt all "plassen" rundt fyren. Det er på en måte litt trist, liker atmostfæren. Flink

i really think you need more space in the top of the frame. Actually the first thing i noticed, was that something was seriously missing in the top =/ and its probably just the border.
otherwize i think its a great photo I really like the shadows, but maybe it would have looked even better if they could have been aimed how should i say it.. straigt out from the windows (90 degrees angle from the wall) if they would be just as long and nice when the sun is in that position that is.
oh, and another thing about the frame, the aliasing on the text seems harsh, perhaps try to get it more smooth =]

This is pretty amazing. It certainly does look like a war scene. The rubble all around, the total expanse of the shot really give this a "big" look to it, as if the scene is most important, and the human figure pales in comparison, which is the horror or war, the lack of control. I love the light coming through the windows in the background. The entire sky is lit up, probably a rare thing in Norway. Continuing the " war" metphor, this could be taken as a bomb blast, or a nuke. Certainly is thought provoking. I wonder why this public bath was left in this condition? Beautiful photo you have here!

I haven't commented on this picture.. must have done so in Real Life and forgotten to do it here..

Like this picture MUCH better than Nr. 2 because this one concentrates much more on the destruction.. and the Angle is so good it makes me wanna scream.. you must have climbed up on a huge mountain of rubble to get it up there.. so cool.

And poor little Askild in the swimming pool where he once used to swim..

but the thing that really makes the picture is the light comming in from the windows.. thats GREAT... I'd be Supa' proud if I ever took a picture this good. Hope you've plans to enlargen this... that'd be cool.

still loving them fonts

Very cool photo. I don't know much about traditional film processing, so I'm sure that means I can't fully appreciate all of the thought that went into this (and the cross processing) but the result is great. It's nice to see some creative works that aren't done in Photoshop.

This pic totally reminds me of that movie.

Great shot. I love the fact that your buddy is in the midst of all that destruction. It gives a sense of scale to it all.

Excellent picture.
1 thing: I found RSX II not to be so special when crossing. When you want extremes go for Velvia, when you want to go for subtle cross, go for sensia...
but hey, its your style : )

I wish I was there...

kakskiv In reply to exception [2003-10-03 15:16:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, you know, I just went to a used camera store today and bought myself a Sensia II Iso 100 that expired April 2001 and a Kodak Elite Chrome 200 that expired December 2000.

I just heard, that by crossing out of date slide films you'll get even extremer pictures. So we'll se what happens. Also they're cheaper so that's two wishes at the same time..

But thanks for telling me your experiences, that's always usefull!

The composition in this shot is incredibly effective. I love how going from the top to the bottom, the image gets more and more chaotic and cluttered. The girl in the "midst of destruction" is very powerful as well. The only thing I can say is that the view outside the window might do to be brightened out...but that's pretty trivial.

Great colours, that scene is just perfect. Those lights reflected through the windows and those collapsed parts do give a very nice touch. Maybe a bit bigger resolution would have been better, of course if the quality of the image wouldn't have taken a hit from it.

aragwen [2003-10-01 12:02:58 +0000 UTC]

I think this is very nice, green is my favorite color so I like it. I think the destruction adds to the photo nicely The resolution of the picture is a little bad though, not by much, just a little. In a scale of 1 to 10.. I would give this an 8. Very nice.

Getting there, man, getting there! I can see some real progress in your work, this is the good shite! I can't wait to see my own photos from that place. Maybe I should head back there and take some more shots, just to finish my film?

Actually, I'm kinda jealous of your feedback on this, I hardly ever get any, but still, I'm gonna +fav it. Damn it.

But, I still think that to really top this of, you should have expanded the frame upwards too, so that it matched the length of the right & left side...

Hey..
Very very nice... I love the colour. Great location, you are right something out of a war movie. I like the reflection of the windows on the floor. I wonder how it would look if you cropped it at the bottom of the window so all you would see is the top of Askild's head....
Good stuff....
