Oh, I know that, honey.  This was back when I was 14 or 15 years old, impressionable.  My mother caught wind of this shortly after it happened and got mad.  She said the same thing as you did.  "You also never know how far you can go until you do so."  Also the infamous words of my Aunt Sara stuck in my head: "Sounds like jealousy to me."
