This story takes place in the Spyro universe,  but the concept of this world and is on goings were taken from someone else. The fantastic   She has and amazing comic called 'Pure Light'   It's a great read! A story of a group of young dragons who involved in a war against not only the purple dragons. (That's right,  more than one) But against a corrupt society that threatens to rot and cripple the city from the inside.

Are horns made out of guts in a shell or what?

Actually,  yes. There is a fleshy quick on the inside. This is what the horn grows from. Their alot like the nails on a dog. If you cut them back too far they will bleed.

It is however important to note that horns like that of goats and antelop are far different than antlers like on a deer.

Horns continue to grow throughout the animals life getting longer and thicker as time passes, they grow much like finger nails. They are attached directly to the skull and have a major artery that runs through the middle, and damage to them can cause serious bleeding and even death.

Antlers on the other hand are seasonal, they only appear serten times of the year( normally during a breeding season) the other parts of the year they are "shed" meaning they fall off, and grow back the following year. They are connected to the skull only by a mineral layer that breaks down at the end of a season.

I hope that helps clear things up for you.

Oh gosh it's her. I never thought you'd kill HER from all dragons. That's very sad. But those wounds do look like killers, no way she'd ever move again even if she survived. They bit out a part of her SPINE (yuk). Poor little Drosera. That she has to look at that.

This is is gonna end teary...

Could just be the meat directly above the spine though and not the spine itself    Hope for the best.

hmmm no, it's clearly too deep....

It's not shown fully, but the bite in the last panel isn't deep. It's less than 1/4 of the neck. It is possible to survive such a bite on 2 conditions: 1) the neck bone isn't affected (not bitten or torn off (instant death)), 2) no other serious wounds are caused. However I think it breaks the latter - more serious wounds to be revealed.
I feel like a detective

Honestly,  I think it definitely gauges deeper than 1/4 inch,  depending on how thick the neck is of course,  but still, I don't think it's deep enough to damage the cervical spine itself enough to cause paralyzes or death, though it could have very will chipped the spinous processes on one or two of the vertebrae.   That would be my guesstimation.  Definitely in itself a survivable wound by my estimates

I didn't mention any measure unit, I just said that it's less than 1/4 of the whole neck. Indeed, it's not fatal, unless poison or smth involved, but it's very likely that it's not the only serious wound.

Elder-Vandermore In reply to RusCSI [2014-06-24 13:50:57 +0000 UTC]

Well if it was indeed 1/4 of the neck,  then the bite would indeed likely involve the spine, and you didn't actually say 'the whole' neck, you just said 'neck' so therefore I misunderstood.

Likely,   but there's only one way to find out for sure

It depends on how much fat and muscle is there.    If you look at dinosours,  in some,  the neck vertebrae are pretty deep inside,   just saying
