Description

I'm very pleased to present my latest creation, Zenith the lion cub! Now available for adoption here: www.ebay.com/itm/-/18191488958… ?
ZENITH is OOAK. He has been entirely designed and hand crafted by myself in a smoke free house. Many hours of patient work have gone into the conception and creation of this lion cub.

MEASURES: 18 inches (about  46 cm) from nose tip to rear end.

MATERIALS: high quality faux fur. Polyfil for the stuffing, with an addition of enclosed glass granulate for added  weight. German glass eyes, horse hair for the whiskers.

FEATURES: Zenith has a lightweight polymer clay sculpted head on which fur has been firmly attached. His eyes are of transparent German glass that I hand painted in tones of amber and gold. His paw pads have been sculpted from polymer clay and layer painted, for a very realistic effect. Extensive shading has been done to body and face.

JOINTING and POSING: Zenith’s body has been designed with no joints. All four limbs are a whole with the body. He has an internal padded wire frame that goes from head to back, and from there to all four legs. The tail is also wired. Thanks to these features Zenith can be arranged in many different and realistic positions. His paws can be delicately curved to give them a natural pose.

Zenith’s felt flower and embroidered mat are also hand sewn by myself. As with all my creations, Zenith comes to you with a specially embroidered felt birth certificate made in matching style and materials.

ZENITH is a collector item not suitable for children. This creation is meant for display and not as a toy.

Thank you, how very kind to add my work! I have been meaning to do another lion for some time now and I would love to participate, unfortunately I have a couple of projects that have priority at the moment so I won't be able to get down to my lion for a couple of months at least...too late for the challenge! Thank you again for adding my work!

This is amazing! what did you use to do the face markings?

Thank you!
The face markings are made with acrylics (eye rim and nose, because there I have the clay with no fur) and oil paint for the rest. Oil paint must be used very sparingly for a subtle effect.

It doesn't make the fur clumpy? That's so creative!

Many soft sculpture artisans use oil paint to shade their creations. I have tried prisma colour markers and powdered pastels, but I find that oils can give a very subtle shading, if applied correctly. You take a tiny bit of colour on the brush and then clean the brush on a paper towel until only a faint mark is visible on the paper: that is when the brush is ready to go on the fur. You build the shading on the fur very gradually. It takes more time, but you have great control on the process. No clumpy fur in the end!

That's really awesome. It sounds so tedious though! Good job and thank you for the information
