The Dragonfish! An amazingly AWESOME fish. Omg, they are the coolest. They live in the deepest parts of the ocean and have photopores (light organs) along their skin and a "lure", like an anglerfish. But these guys (more like gals, since the males are about 1/4 the size of the females) look like a real-life sea serpent. SO COOL.To get inspiration, I thought about drawing an animal I've never drawn, as many of you suggested in my journal, and so I thought, "FISH!" And I looked through my humungo 700 page Animal Encyclopedia and found the Black Dragonfish. There were barely any ref photos that I could find when I searched on google, so I did the best I could
. They are SO COOL.It felt so good to just draw again

Yeah, I saw a documentary that mentioned them and showed how the luminescent lures on their heads worked, and I thought, "Wow, that's really cool!"

This looks so bad ass!!!!!!!!!!! The lighting is amazing!!! I did a sculpture of one of those with glow-in-the-dark beads ad a viperfish. I'm gonna post those now.

Holy......this is great. The detail on the head is amazing. Not to mention the flecks of light (like someone else commented on) around the fish which is a nice touch. Man, this is some major inspiration. *goes off to sketch and paint*

This is AWESOME, Kalli!! Even though it's probably the ref photo that made you decide to use that bluish color, I still think it makes a really great piece of art. Good detail! My favorite part of this whole thing is looking into the eye.

Deap-sea creatures are really weird. I like that you not only did a good job of suggesting its body through subtle highlights, but also how you managed to light the area around him with photosynthetic (is that the right word?) plankton. That made this piece so much more interesting to look at
