Description Another study from the zoo. I loved this little guy . A white-lipped viper. He/she stayed put, draped across its little tree branch, the whole time I painted it. It was fun to do a study of the way a snake interacts with its environment and gravity!

Watercolors, probably about 1-2 hours

love your sketches but this one reminded me of the python we got out of our bush house a few weeks ago after it had eaten 2 guineapigs, though I have had them the width of speed bumps and about 3-4 mtres long, I moved this one to the bush though my daughter in law did the handling,LOL, thanks for sharing

I really like how you've shown the scales, and the colours also look great! And how it fades out also looks neat 8D I'm glad it stayed still too haha, somehow sittin' like that must be comfy for a snake

My goodness gracious!! The colors, the textures, the blending and shading, the molding and crafting of this piece is astounding! You did an absolutely excellent job with anatomy, even capturing the behavior of the snake itself in this image! Absolutely stunning and very nice choice of coloring for the viper as well. I just love how it fades out at the ends~~ Keep up the beautiful work.

I love the scales on this one! Looks like you figured out a technique between the other snake one and this one. You're so amazing at watercolor!

thank you! Yeah, I like this one a lot more than the python . I hadn't painted a snake in watercolor in a very long time when I started that one, so by this second painting I was a lot more comfortable .
Thanks for the lovely comment!!

Very nice job! It's great when they hold still for you (unlike insects and rodents )

Thanks so much! I love watercolor. You should keep experimenting with it--if you prefer mediums like oils/acrylics, you can get the more controlled effects they provide by using much less water with the watercolor pigment (I used lots of dry-brush techniques here, such as in defining the scales) .
