Hands down...The Iron Giant is my favourite movie of all time. Brad Bird is considered somewhat of a God among us animation folks, and this movie easily demonstrates why.
It makes me laugh until my sides hurt, sit on the edge of my seat, and seriously makes me fight back tears - THAT is a movie. Most of the time when someone says, "I love you," in film you're kinda like yea yea yea thats real cheesy. But damn, when Hogarth says it to Giant near the end it's so heartfelt - it's so real - because you love him too. I love him.
This is my fan art contribution to the "Iron Giant Project" by Dan Merisanu (The Labyrinth book store dude for those of you in Toronto).

This is simply a gorgeous piece - it nearly looks like the Giant is about to make his way home after building himself back up. You should be proud of this piece.

Lovely work! I especially love the snow effect; it really makes the whole piece feel very bleak and makes the Giant feel lost and sad and alone.

The only moment that beats Hogarth's (or Hog Hug's) 'I love you' is the Iron Giant's "Su-per-man..." a few moments later. Absolutely destroys me every time. Even thinking about it is making me teary.
Brad Bird is indeed a God.

I've been hearing a lot about this movie lately. It's been ages since I watched it though 
Great painting! The light from his eyes is really convincing. But it's the snow flakes that did it for me. Somehow, however way you painted them blurry and in focus along with, I think, his fading legs just gives it that "step inside the picture" depth, and dark abyss you get in dark storms.

But don't see it with the intent of seeing a masterpiece. Otherwise you'll spend the whole sitting saying to yourself, "I don't see what's so good about it - it doesn't live up to the hype." Just make sure to watch it leisurely and it will all come to you
