Softpaw tugged at her mentor's tail and mewed, "Honeyfurrrr can we pleeease go hunting? I haven't been out of camp for days! It's way too dark in here and I'm bored!"
Honeyfur looked down at her apprentice. "Should we go out now? It's such a nice day. And we should also collect some moss for the elders."
Softpaw squeaked something unintelligible, but she was clearly happy. She raced in a circle and bounded out of the cave ahead of her mentor, her bright tail a streak of white behind her as she slipped past the frozen waterfall closing off the camp from the outside world.
Honeyfur purred as she followed her apprentice out of camp at a slower pace. She gazed at the waterfall as she walked past.. "Softpaw, don't run too fast now!" she called out, acting almost motherly to the young cat.

Softpaw skidded to a stop outside the cave.
Wow... she thought. It's so bright out here... it's beautiful.
I wonder what we could possibly hunt out here? There's not a single animal in sight...
"Hey Honeyfur, what are we going to catch?" she asked as her mentor quietly padded up behind her.
She stopped walking for a moment and looked around. "Is there even anything to catch out here?" Softpaw glanced back at Honeyfur.
"And where do we find moss out here in this cold? How does it grow? Are we going to hunt first or are you going to make me collect moss first? Can I ask the other apprentices for help if we are? And-"
Softpaw froze at the look of amusement on her mentor's face as she was bombarded with questions and swiftly apologized.
"Sorry, Honeyfur," she mewed.
"It's alright to be curious, Softpaw. First we will hunt. There are certain animals still out during leafbare that collect food before they go away until newleaf. And we can dig by the tree trunks along the bottom for moss."
"Let's get to it then!" Softpaw leapt towards the forest before pausing to ask one last question-
"So.. which way do we go?"

Honeyfur purred, "We go this way, the way you're about to rush off into goes towards the Twolegs." She looked at her apprentice sternly. "I don't want you to ever go near them, do you hear me?"
"Yes, Honeyfur," Softpaw mumbled, swiftly falling into step behind her mentor. A snowflake landed on her nose, startling her, and she yelped. "Brrr!"
