Not that this isn't hilarious, but I can't really see Knuckles beating up on Tails often... I would think their current relationship would be more akin to brotherly... Then again, older brothers are prone to picking on their younger brothers... I always thought that Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails saw their relationship with each other as brotherly...
On an off-topic I always thought the same as the relationship between X, Zero, and Axl...

It all depends on how you view their characters. Knuckles is a loner who likes his solitude, and Tails is a kid who wants to be everybody's friend. Based on that, their relationship with each other becomes obvious.
