As the title says, it's a preview of a new species that I have been working on for a while. I am currently working on a species guide for them and hopefully I will have it done by this weekend. I will also put a couple of these up for adoption as soon as the guide is up.They are small creatures that can live in any habitat. Their appearance vary depending on where they live, mostly noticeable on their fur. The colder the temperature is the thicker and longer the fur grows.
To protect them self from other creatures they regularly make really loud and annoying noises to keep enemies away. They are deaf so they don't mind all the noise.
I still haven't come up with a good name for them yet though. Any suggestions? c:

Tried to think of something softish for a name... came up with something, liked it, double-checked with the internet though and found out it was some sort of russian curseword. Dangit.
Had a second idea, did a search, has something to do with guns.
*sighs*
What's with cutesie sounding words being related to such awful things??

Lovely! Β How about an Iryx? Β Pronounced ear-icks. Β A play on sounds as far as it's large ears go, but also like an oryx, a type of antelope, because it somewhat resembles it?

I just translated deer into Greek and then created a word out of the letters that some of the Greek characters looked like!

Well yes, they used to be able to hear stuff, but because of all the loud noises they have slowly evolved into being almost completely deaf (for their own good). You see all the fluff in the ears? That keeps a lot of the noises out c:

But as time goes on and hearing is less necessary, surely evolution would make the ears smaller and smaller with each generation? Like how our pinkie toes aren't needed, so they keep getting smaller and smaller and will eventually not be there at all.
I know big ears = adorable, but if it defies a characteristic you've set for the species, I personally don't think it should be there.

Those big, fuzzy ears just look so soft!
I'm not very gifted in coming coming up with species names... but something deerish or that evokes feelings of softness and warmth would suit them, I feel.
