OH GOD, why u do dat to me, Gravity Falls??? WHY??!!
Fucking awesome show, fucking awesome scene.
The idea when I began this drawing was to make the dorito thing as Bill, so instead of the stars and cosmos inside that portal, it would be something suggesting his eye... because, y'know, I really think that the fact that Mabel didn't shut down the machine will make shit hit the fan violently next episode, so I thought that it would be a cool way to portrait the danger/importance of her decision...
BUUT...
it didn't work, it was too much information for the scene... I couldnt even draw the stars inside the portal because they took away the focus of her tears :\ Also, to make it look like it was looking at mabel, its pupil where way down, it were gettin hid by Mabel's head and making hard to recognize it as a pupil... So either I could lift the machine, that its already way too high in the composition, or to make its pupil look more straight foward, but then it would not fufil my intention making its existance pointless... It's sad I wasn't able to make it work out, I really liked the idea
oh well...
Welp, I know there's already a lot of fanart of this scene specific, but whatever, I really loved it and couldn't hold back myself! I really needed to portrait this!
I hope you like as much as I enjoyed working on it :^)

Most of the other art though is at the moment Shooting Star's shirt forms "the Key & the Gate " symbolism with the portal. Not as much is from before Shooting Star decides to trust Fez Symbol. I like how you made the portal pure void while the stars are bleeding into the portal room.

Yeah, most of the drawings is in the moment mabel let go of the button and is floating... Although its a beautiful moment, I like much more this one when her impasse and emotional pressure is at peak, right before she decides to trust Stan. And also, its interesting the symbolism about the key & gate, but what I did also doesnt run from that, its just more subtle.
Oh well, And I'm glad you liked.

Oh yes, I definitely like the concept of effects of the gate bleeding through into realspace.
At first I didn't pay too much mind to "the Key & the Gate" imagrry beyond Mabel just being the key to the whole situation. But then during the Bill Cipher AMA, there seemed to be a reference to another entity from that pantheon...

Dunno, its hard to take seriosly this AMA. I mean, one thing is hiding as jokes some information through small detais in the show, they have a whole planing and preparation behind it. But the AMA is pretty much just some random questions.
This phrase you quoted for example, this answer came from a question so silly that I bet even Stan would give an answer like that...
like:
soos "mr pine, why do you think doods have nipples?"
stan [grunting sarcastically] "probably because humans are designed by a blind and idiotic uncaring chaos, idk"

Not only because there's a lot of fanart of it, but because after I've worked really hard trying to figure out how to compose this drawing, when I finally did a small sketch that I liked and went back to the episode to look for references and start refining it, just then I noticed that this frame i.imgur.com/0Sb4wWL.jpg is pretty much exactly what I drew.
I gave this drawing a lot of thought, and besides the comment I made that originally I wanted to draw Bill, there's actually more little cool things with some meaning in there... Definility that's NOT just a floating Mabel because of yes, because I thought it was pretty.
Anyway, I wont go any further on this matter as I could write A LOT about this 'making off' xD sorry
