As I was leaving the house yesterday afternoon, I noticed a large jumping spider hopelessly entangled in the web of a southern house spider (Kukulcania hibernalis ). I pulled her from the web and spent 30 minutes using tweezers to free her from the silk. (If you've never handled Kukulcania silk, it sticks to everything.)I don't know whether the jumper was actually bitten by the southern house spider, but she seems to be OK. She is pretty docile and easily handled. She doesn't actually jump very much but is quite alert and mobile. We've been calling her "Miss Frodo."
She looks like Phidippus otiosus .

I was going to try to keep her, but I ended up releasing her a week later due to not having small enough feeder insects on hand. Hopefully she found a safe place in the yard to make her egg sac.

I love all spiders, and the species that was going to eat her is among my favorites, but I just couldn't leave the cute little jumper to her fate.

Yeah, It's sad whenever anything meets it's end early, and that's why I love to volunteer at animal shelters nearby, it makes me feel great, knowing that I'm saving the lives of animals.
