You wake up later than you expected. It was almost noon. Shit, you were expecting Matthew any minute now.

You always had a crush on him. You were especially shy around him, weird because he wasn't exactly the social butterfly himself.

You dragged yourself out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom. You looked like something that came out of a horror movie. Hair a complete mess and sticking out in all different directions, eyes red and tired.

'Wow you look really disgusting today. Why'd you even bother getting up this morning.... Shut up, I'm not listening to you.'

As you ran a brush through your knotted (H/C) hair, something catches your eye. A razor blade sitting on the edge of the bathroom counter.

"Nope, not today." You said quietly to yourself and you pushed the razor blade off the counter into the trash can.

You quickly get dressed and put on some light make up. After ward, you walked down stairs to get your morning coffee. The bitter smell of coffee beans quickly filled the kitchen as your coffee pot began to heat up.

'Bitter. Foul. Gross. Stop it. You're not having these thoughts today.'

Your (E/C) eyes dart to the knife set sitting on the edge of the kitchen counter near the stove. "I don't need you."

You poured your morning coffee into a mug and headed for the front door for some fresh air. You needed to take a minute and breathe.

As you head for the front door, you glance over to the mirror by the door. You don't know what possessed you to do that. You didn't see the absolutely beautiful person everyone said you were.

'You're fat. Ugly. Worthless. Mattie will never love you why did you think you ever had a chance with him anyway?'

"Stop it!" You scream at the mirror. "Shut up!" The image in the mirror mocked you.

'What's Mattie gonna say when he sees your scars? He'll think you're pathetic and weak. You should be ashamed of yourself.'

Your coffee cup slips from your hand as you storm back into the kitchen, tears in your eyes. You snatched the butcher knife from the knife set, the edge sharpened perfectly. Stabbing it into the the cutting bored you rip back your sleeves revealing a road map of scars. All of different lengths and sizes, some put there voluntarily others there by accident.

You slid your wrist down the edge of the knife a few times and watched the crimson blood bloom to the surface of your skin.

You kept doing it. Wincing every time a new cut was made until you couldn't take it anymore.

Your shaking hands reach for a dish cloth and tightly held it against the cuts. You let yourself slide to the floor, crying.

"(Y/N)?" Your teary eyes dart up to the source of the voice. "M-Mattie... Oh God I didn't want you to see me like this..."

He crouched down to your level. "Why do you do this to yourself?" He said in a calm and kind of timid voice.

You wanted to die. What was he going to think of you? He'd think you're weak. He'd think you're crazy for doing this. He'd look down on you for sure.

"I-I.... I don't know.... It makes me feel better after i do it. I was always bullied in school, I guess some of the things they said stayed with me." Your voice breaks as tears roll down your face. "I'm sorry... "

"Hey, easy...." You blush as he gently brushed your tears away. His violet eyes never leaving yours. "You don't need to be hurting yourself like this, you're too beautiful for that."

"What did you say?" You blinked in disbelief for a moment. "I said you're beautiful." Matthew smiled softly at you, a smile that made your heart melt. He took the cloth from your hand and pressed it against your wrist to stop the bleeding.

You were embarrassed over how many scars you had that lined your skin. Once the bleeding stopped he gently pressed a kiss to your wrist. You blushed.

"Promise me you wont do this to yourself anymore." "Mattie I..." "Pleeeasse for me?"

You smiled timidly. "Alright...." "There's that smile I love."

After a moment of embarrassment and uneasiness Matthew finally grew bold enough to press his lips to yours. Your heart melts. It felt like a dream where a princess meets her prince charming.

As he pulled away he said,"Ive got a secret. I used to do it to." He rolled back his sleeves revealing dozens of faded scars. Your eyebrows shoot up in surprise. You never knew... "Matthew I had no idea...."

"I felt like I was never noticed. Know one ever cared about me. I had no friends, no one ever talked to me and when they did, I was bullied. So i did this to myself." His fingers lift your chin a bit so you're eye level with him.

"I stopped when i met you."
