Description I made this quick tutorial on my stream today. (download for full reso)

Usually I paint foliage, but lately I wanted to try lining everything (why Kane why you do this) and some people were wondering how I would color it in.
Essentially, it's still painting, however, the approach is different. With regular painting, you're adding on top of the previous mark with just more leaf shapes of different colors. However, the outline of the foliage is built by the leaves, and you'd need to fill it in accordingly.

So, this doesn't really teach you how to paint. It's more like tips and advice on what to keep in mind. Though like actual painting, that's also what you have to do. Keeping in mind where the light is hitting, which area is bunched up with more leaves and how the shadows of the leaves are casting onto other shadows.

This was done with three layers. 1) Lineart 2) base 3) clipped layer for shading
-Base is just there for my own organizational purposes- since it's painting, you can just add the colors and painting directly onto it since this method requires a lot of painting on top and cleaning anyway

Another note- If you can't read my handwriting, I am so sorry LOL; Just ask me if you can't read a certain part.

For those of you wondering, my brush settings are just
-lineart -> gyazo.com/5ae2a8fb52943d220169…
-coloring -> gyazo.com/7b010a4b38f5a503c4c6…
^Nothing special really lol;

This can be applied to more cooler foliage, but I haven't colored it in myself. Maybe in the future!
Thanks for reading

Work that utilizes this-

I'll be sure to try this out next time I do foliage.

One thing I could mention is that I had trouble reading some of the parts with smaller text.
With some sense of context and quick thinking I could read it but a bit bigger text would make the whole thing a bit smoother.

Ah I would suggest downloading it It's actually a big canvas size, so if you download and zoom in, you can read the smaller text.
Thank you!
