The written three Japanese Kanji letters are as same as Chinese traditional Han-zi letters, although those three-letters-in-one-set identify " Acer pictum ssp. dissectum aka Acer mono var. marmoratum f. dissectum" in Japanese languages.
Literally the meaning of "En" and "Kou" both as "monkey" and "Kaede" as "maple aka Acer" in Japanese languages, it means "Monkey's Hands Maple" in Japanese now ...
As the shape of Maple's "leaf" looks like "monkey's dorsum-manus aka back(or top)- of-the-hand", people started to call the Maple tree as "En(猿)-Kou(甲)-Kaede(楓)" which means "monkey's dorsum-manus (shaped)-maple" and finally changed to "En-Kou(猿猴)-Kaede(楓)" which means "monkeys maple" using another new two-letters-set Kanji "EnKou(猿猴)" which derived from Chinese-Hanzi "Yuan-Hou(猿猴)" which has exactly same meanings for "apes and monkeys" .... probably ,,,,

However, especiailly in western Japan, the word "Enkou(猿猴)" identified some "special creature" in those days .....
