Due to the harsh reality, some parents have their young help out with their work to keep them out of mischief. It also helps build character along the way.

I believe it's good practice for adulthood. It's not in the same league but as a child I was made to do the housework (all of it) along with my brothers, cook iron clothes and all the other mundane tasks running a house requires. As a result I was prepared for everything I needed to do to be a functional adult.
