Berchem (Belgium), May 17th 2017Lockheed C-130H Hercules CH-13 of the Belgian Air Component executes a go-around on approach to the Antwerp International Airport.
CH-13 is the 'odd-ball' of the Belgian Air Component's Hercules fleet: unlike the other aircraft, which were C-130H's delivered in 1972-1973, CH-13 was an attrition replacement, acquired following the accidental loss of CH-06 (fatal crash, Eindhoven (NL) on July 15th 1996) and CH-02 (hangar fire, Brussels Airport (B) on May 5th 2006). Originally delivered as C-130E 64-0552 to the USAF, she became N130EV with Evergreen Helicopters, before being sold to the Belgian Air Force in 2007. Converted and upgraded to equivalent C-130H MLU configuration, she originally received the serial CH-14 before cooler heads prevailed, and the decision was taken to renumber her in sequence as CH-13.

Actually, we've ordered the Airbus A400M (7 aircraft) - together with Luxembourg (1 aircraft), in fact. As such, Luxembourg's air force (currently consisting of zero aircraft and a single pilot, stationed at with the Belgian Air Component's 15th Air Transport Wing) will in fact be based at the Melsbroek military site at Brussels International Airport when the aircraft are finally delivered.

I'm kinda lucky that way - most of the day, the light is ideal to take pictures of the airplanes on approach - as long as they are using runway 11, that is. I noticed, though, that too much sunlight can be a bit of a bother - on clear days, the light reflects mostly on white and silver liveries, giving me pretty bad pictures under those conditions...

I certainly hope so as well! :3 I can't imagine the massive A400M would be suited for every current user of the C-130 - surely, the only replacement of a C-130 for that kind of users... is another C-130!
