On April 8th, The online features for the 3ds and the Wii U will be shutting down. Meaning you will no longer be able to play Splatoon 1 online.

I remember how utterly disinterested I was when it got revealed at E3 2014. Didn't care for the aesthetic or for shooters, and the fact that it was shipped unfinished turned me off even more.

And then I actually played it. And everything just clicked.

Admittedly I didnt play it anywhere near as much as 2 and 3. I pretty much stopped when they added the inkbrush (which is ironic considering that's my main weapon in 2 and 3) But for the small amount of time I did put into it, I enjoyed it. I found it to be almost as fun as Smash 4.

Speaking of Smash, apparently Splatoon 1 is seen as the "Melee" of the series. Everything is busted, but because of that, the game ended up being super fun. It also helped that the devs knew how to make decent maps.

So yeah, while I don't have that much of an attachment to Splatoon 1 compared to most people, I thank it for kickstarting one of my favorite Nintendo series ever!
