look, a bishie! with blue! and black! and angsty! and angel wings! and oh, the coloring! how neo-goth! (wtf... now i'm just rambling.)
anyway.
i've been meaning to draw a pic like this for a while now. i have found that anime art is SELL-OUT ART. yes, you heard me (read me?). ever noticed there's something of a formula to a popular anime drawing? i have. it's sickening. i want to see a revolution, people.and i damn well better not see some innane fangirl comment on this.

And as for the popularity formula, I agree. I still enjoy drawing anime though. You have quite a few fans of your own and you have an original style.
I do have to say that he does look really nice ^_^;
His nose/lip area is especially well done and your shading is as impeccable as always!

Nicely done. I'd just like to add though, that you call anime-style art "sell out art", but I noticed that that's mostly what your gallery features: anime style art.

It makes sense. I draw anime-style too, but not because that's the "in" thing. I've been doing it since '96, because it's easier than drawing realistically.

Not all anime-inspired work is sellout material. I've seen many people inspired by anime and take it to the next level... and then I've also seen the fanboys rip and tear all integrity from the genre. It all depends what people do with it. I think saying all anime art is a sellout is wrong, but then it's always up for opinions.

I love the art...you're a very talented person. I'm glad that you are putting your talent to use not as some DA clone that draws her pictures in a formula style (angel wings + smexy bishie + gothy colors), but actually to put meaning behind your picture. I applaud.

I really like this. I mean, sure he's all bishounen and angsty and stuff, but I very much like the point you're trying to make, too. I think a lot of people (not just fangirls) fall into their "comfort zone" of what they look at, and the anime community is just obvious because there's so much of that art style here.
Admittedly, this isn't gonna stop me from drawing angsty stuff with stupid little angel wings because that's what I like to draw.

i read your comment. while i am one of those people that cant help but draw all that sterotypical stuff (i hate it so much **dies**) i totally agree with you. i even read all the comments on here and was like **shakes head** fool. It's surprising how few actually read the artist comments, and how many are like "omg you are popular artist i +fav this now!" so from my point of view (not being a "OMG HOT SEXY BISHIE~~!!!!11oneone" type of person), i really love the face, it was very well done. as far as crits go, looks a little narrow imo. anyway.. yea thats about it.. look how long my comment is wtfomghotbishieimustglompand+favnow!!!

...that... was totally not the purpose of this pic. if you had actually read my comment, you would see. sorry if i sound a bit harsh but it seems over half of the people who have already commented have not read the artist comment... the point of this pic is meant to make people THINK before posting comments like..well.. the ones i've been receiving on this. i'm flattered, sure, but frankly i know what i can do artistically. i wish someone would actually respond to my thoughts and feelings, or at least give me an intellectual comment. but no, what i set to defy has just completely ignored the point i was trying to prove, and it bit me right in the ass.

yeah.. seems few people have a truely original style. but, I think most people are like that when they start out; they draw what they're familiar with, then later they begin to take elements from other styles and mold it into something of their own.

the wings are small to prove a point.. most anime wings are unrealistically (to the point of absurdity) small, particularly in proportion. but that's what gets the fans, isn't it? and that must be what's important.
