Yeah, I love this time of year for the tomatoes most of all!

Are those cherry tomatoes on the right?Β

The round ones are cherry tomatoes, and the smaller more oval ones are grape tomatoes!

i haven't heard of grape tomatos before =O
the cherry ones go so well in salads!

KarenAld In reply to Photoshopoholic [2016-11-19 21:35:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the grape ones are about half the size, and so are designed for salads as will! No chopping required!

I grew 4 tomato plants this year. Only two of them put on some blooms, and only one of those grew a tomato. Only one tomato. My dad ate it. He said it was good.

I have them in what I think is a sunny place. But it might not be sunny enough. I have to worry about the sun cooking things where I'm at. XD

Southerners live for tomato season. It's like a contest to see who can get the first one .
Your neighbor has a nice variety going. Perfect for salad, sauces or sammiches
I won't buy supermarket tomatoes either, I don't know what they've done to them
but my wife does from time to time...then complains about them.

KarenAld In reply to trulyonetoo [2016-08-25 15:10:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh, yes, and you probably have an earlier - and longer - tomato season than we do!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trulyonetoo In reply to KarenAld [2016-08-26 15:56:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh I'm sure we have a longer season. We can usually get them in the ground as early as the end of March though I don't admit to being that ambitious.
I like the looks of those big yellow pinkish looking ones in your photo. Do you think you could get the name of the variety from your neighbor.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KarenAld In reply to trulyonetoo [2016-08-26 16:36:20 +0000 UTC]

I will ask! We dare not put them in the ground until May!

Thank you Karen. I thought they might be an heirloom variety. I might try them myself next year. Thanks for the link too, I'm sure I'll have to start them from seed.

KarenAld In reply to TrablaMonRon [2016-08-22 23:09:38 +0000 UTC]

Nothing GMO'd about these babies - this is what REAL tomatoes look like - different sizes, different shapes = those things at the supermarket creep me out! They are from my friend's garden!

Oh, probably just a different variety -Β www.burpee.com/vegetables/toma… for examples - I forget which kind of beefsteak tomatoes that plant is!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TrablaMonRon In reply to KarenAld [2016-08-25 18:38:44 +0000 UTC]

In the link you provided, especially the big ones are hybrids and I was referring to "pure" tomatoes Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KarenAld In reply to TrablaMonRon [2016-08-25 23:05:05 +0000 UTC]

Ehe hybrids are usually two kinds of real tomatoes merged just by cross pollination - which can happen naturally, but usually is human-done for reliable results! ALL our food has pretty much been genetically modified by humans over the years, just the slow way!
