About the Species:
Holy sphinxes are spirits that inhabit the inanimate objects of Etherwas. They are born when humans create a deep attachment to an object (a house, a weapon, a river...) and die when the object is destroyed. The oldest are Rales (Earth) and Inven (Sky), the firstborns of all holy sphinxes. Being spirits, they can change their size at will, but prefer a deer's size when they have to interact with humans.

- Raise has to be of a minimum of $1 / 100
- No breeding

If I ever get married, I'm going to want that veil for myself.
I might go for an opaque version though, and not see-through.

Yes I did ^^ Your sea-creatures inspired me to draw my little dragon Blue, from my comic, (if you are interested -> [link] ) while he's "drowning" and my sea dragon I recently got from =Mythka is visible in the background

He can't help it. He's just a baby dragon who's very curious and knows what he wants XD (But he's also very kind and carrying when he needs to be.)

You should stream more often, it was fun joining you. I've also been wondering for some time how you shade your work, and now I got some idea of how you do it. (Though I wish I had sai, or that you guys were using ps instead XP )

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to LamLArts [2013-01-06 16:40:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm happy you enjoyed yourself, I don't do it often because I usually draw for 10-15 minutes and then read some fanfic or look at Tumblr or reply to comments... It's rare for me to draw non-stop for hours.

And I do just the basic shading, I'm very lazy... Plus, all shadings for four-legged species look alike, so I simply go ahead and 'copy' the usual shading.

I tried using PS at the beginning, and it's one of the reasons why my tablet stayed in the box for nine months before I picked it up. It's a magnificent program and it truly lets you do everything, but when you're trying to figure it out on your own it can be overwhelming. Plus, I never got the hang of changing and saving brush settings, so when I found out about SAI I was saved. TAT

LamLArts In reply to Karijn-s-Basement [2013-01-06 16:48:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know that feeling. I tend to do the same, unless I find the "flow". Then I can draw for hours XD

Well, your "basic" shading is really awesome! I'm trying to find the right brush and settings to get a similar effect as the one used in sai, but it's hard...
And I take help from various of tutorials here on DA, as well as youtube to learn new ways to do things, so I can't say I learn on my own

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to LamLArts [2013-01-06 17:16:29 +0000 UTC]

Well, if everyone used the old trial-and-error method we'd all be crawling in the dark for weeks before finding something useful.

I generally look in the gallery of the artists I like to see if they have some brush settings or tutorials and then tinker with them slightly until I get the result I like, but I've given up trying to get the *identical* effect. I don't have their hands or their eyes, so the same result is very hard to obtain. Much easier to take the tools and find what you're comfortable with.

LamLArts In reply to Karijn-s-Basement [2013-01-06 17:26:43 +0000 UTC]

Ha! You just gave me the same incite as the time I painted with watercolors a year ago. I should stop to try and get the same effect as the artists I like and just find my own way, and sometimes let the brush/colors live their own life XD
Thanks, I needed that. Now I just need to install it to my system

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to LamLArts [2013-01-06 17:34:50 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I hope the download will be fast and painless.

For me it was painless but not very fast... I spent a couple of months trying to get the same effect as an artist I liked before giving up and going my own way.
Though I don't feel like I have a 'style', I know I'm not copying anyone else and that's enough for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LamLArts In reply to Karijn-s-Basement [2013-01-06 17:49:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, I guess I'll just have to commence the download and see how it goes

Usually things like this just... happens. It kinda snaps in my brain. That's what it was like when I made this . And before that I had a painting, which still ain't done because I spent so many hours, probably 50 hours or so, and then it became old and below my skill-level, so I don't like it anymore. So I might just paint over that other one when I feel like it.

And Karijn, you do have a style. A very nice, uniqe and smooth one. You just can't see it XD

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to LamLArts [2013-01-06 18:09:12 +0000 UTC]

That is absolutely *stunning*. °-°
(I'm a shoe with traditional brushes, I'd rather use pencils all the way. T_T)

And sometimes I like to take down my sketch collectors and look at my old works, the ones I was obscenely proud of... And then pick them and fix them.
It doesn't work with all kind of drawings though (Paintings are practicallty impossible to 'fix').

Thank you!

I was the same way, until I began high school with art as main subject. That's when I was able to try all different kinds of techniques and learn new ways to paint and draw. I'm really happy I found my way to acrylics and watercolor. It can be very relaxing ^^ Well, mostly watercolors anyway. You should try it sometimes!

Yeah! I save all my old "gemstones" in a folder. It's fun to look in it when I'm having an art block. I have so many I'd like to remake and see how much I've improved since last time. I gotta do that soon XD

And yeah, it can be hard with paintings. But not impossible. But I would like to only make one with the same motive, so that it will stay unique.
I'm aiming to become famous and make my paintings worth something, even though it's a looong road to reach that goal...

I would have liked to go to art school in high school, but since I wanted to try Medicine, they felt that art wouldn't have been the best choice. So I did classical studies, but looking back, it frankly hasn't helped me a lot.

Hindsight is always 20/20. T_T

I have done some watercolour works in the past (they're in my main account), but I've never been able to give up the pencil lines. =3=

I basically choose art since I had/have no clue what I would wanna do for a living

Well, there are so many ways to work with watercolors, and some includes keeping the pencil lines. Like book-illustrations
