so as some of you guys already known Ayaka is originally assigned to be the heroine of FSN but later Takeuchi and Nasu deicided to change her into Shiro.

here will give you some more idea about the initial FSN.
Kinoko Nasu start the story of FSN when he was a high shool student so the initial perpose of the story was not for gal-game, therefore Ayaka was the heroine, and Saber(aka Arthur)was a guy, I think in some other artilcle he also mentioned that Rin and Sakura are still female characters. it's not like he swap all the characters' gender but only Saber and Ayaka's.
