Zack is my fave FF7 character as well, and always will be. When he was younger his always had a strong willed mind and put faith in his dream and those matter to him. However they all eventually turned away from him, and it was then he understood the dark reality of his fallen friends, and as a result became stronger and more self-dependent and determined to fulfill his dream and protect his honor. Whenever dark things happened, he had no one to answer his questions, and he didn't even have anyone to give him comfort, but he never let them defeat him or gave up and fallen into the dark, he always self comforted himself by repeating the motor Angeal told him

I don't usually cry during video games, but I just burst into tears during Zack's death scene at the end of Crisis Core. Even though I knew it was coming, there was so much buildup to it and at that point Zack was such a likable character that it was tragic when he finally met his end. I suppose the upside to this is that he died protecting someone important to him, and that's enough for me to consider him the hero he always wanted to be.
