Description Well, I finally got up the courage to paint in the background, but still needs a bit of tweaking. Might still work some more on the water - not sure. I do want to finish it this week.
Any feedback and expert opinions are always appreciated.

Its lovely Karin. Maybe the near boat and or its gaggle of pelicans (maybe on their beaks) needs a touch of brighter paint, either that or subdue the brightly colored boat (which to my eye pulls too much away from the center of interest). Just a suggestion.

Thank you, Barry! Great advice. I've since worked on it some more. I've added more colour to the pelicans, and some waves/ripples. Just have to add some minor touches. I have been busy with overseas visitors, so waiting for a break in the action to finish and post it here.
Cheers
Karin

No expert opinion here. I see why you say you might work more on the water though. In closer to the shore it looks like it needs something more.
I like it though!
Hugs,
Anj

Thanks for the feedback, Anj! You are right , of course. I did this one in class - I'm still a student, as well as a tutor. My tutor, Gwen thought it should have a few reflections of the skyline, and some water ripples, which is what I've done. Will post it soon. Almost finished.

Its pretty awesome to me. The city is very atmospheric, looks like the start of a hot hazy day in Melbourne.
As with all of your paintings, an element of humor. The pelicans look like they are having a meeting in their office, discussing the days agenda.

Can't wait to see the finished painting.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, Sue. Not sure it's typical , although the pelicans in the boats are common. I have taken many photos of this. I have worked on it some more in Gwen's class, and think it's better now. Will post it as soon as it's finished. Just have to paint a few more ripples in the water, and hope I can find a frame for it, for next exhibition.

Good luck for the next exhibition, it must be getting closer and closer and I'm sure this one will be popular.

Thank you, Sue! I was going to put this in the art society exhibition, but didn't get it finished and framed in time. Oh well, the big one is still coming up in May. I've got my sister and her husband visiting for another 10 days. Boy, the time is flying by so fast. They are just getting back from 3 days in Hobart. Anyway, hope you're keeping well.

Hi Karin, so to take so long to reply. Work has been very busy. I seem to be working harder for less students!
Hope your sisters visit has gone well. Knowing that your hospitality knows no bounds I'm sure she has had a great time.
And May must be looming closer for you.
Good luck.

Thanks, Sue, so good to hear from you, my dear friend. I have had a lot of time off from teaching and from painting, so it was good to get back in the studio, finally and throw some paint around. Having my sister here was lots of fun, but wish I could have had more time to do stuff with her. I should post some photos of us in the city. We went to that street where we took you, where there was all that Graffiti art, and it was all changed.
I will start teaching again in Term 2. I plan to paint up a storm, since I want lots of new work for our May exhibition. Then there is also an exhibition in July at a popular Williamstown restaurant.
You must be looking forward to Easter break. Good to hear from you.

nice Karen. Nice job on the reflections and the buildings in the far background and skylight.

Thank you, Stephen! I've since worked on it some more. Now I can see it still needed more work on the water. Will post the finished one soon.

and I'll give you my honest opinion. Usually I don't have to deal with backgrounds because my work fills up the entire working area. However, the few times I had to deal with backgrounds it's hard for me, so I know what you go through.

Thank you, Pat ! I appreciate the kind feedback. I know I could still put more ripples and detail in the water, but not sure it needs it. I will take it in to Gwen, whose class I attend, and see what she thinks.

Excellent idea! On my screen it looks quite wonderful, no need for more ripples or what have you, but looking at the real thing is something else again.
Looking forward to seeing the final version!

Thank you for your feedback, Pat. I took it to class today, and sure enough, Gwen thought it needed a bit more work. Still needs just some finishing touches. I've put in reflections of the city, and more ripples in the foreground. Might finish by tomorrow.

Certainly can't give an expert opinion, but as with much of your art, I like it a lot. One comment, and I don't see this as inherently positive or negative, just interesting... the pink shades of the pelicans' reflections make those reflections resemble flamingos! NO idea if there is anything intentional in that, and again I don't see that really as a specifically good or bad thing, just something that came to mind when I noticed it.

As always, thank you for sharing your art.

Thank you for your lovely words. Also very interesting that you thought the reflections resembled flamingos. I do love those reflections - they can be so interesting. I was certainly using artistic license, and using colour in a very creative way. Anyway, thanks for sharing.
