Description Double-Edged Loyalty - a poem by Sean Denney

Double Edged Loyalty by karmicviolence

Though young in years, a weight sits on my soul,
A burden born where secrets darkly creep,
And whispers coil like smoke from dying coal -
A tangled truth that makes my conscience weep.
They say a snitch lives ever in their shame,
That tongues will spit their name like bitter blight,
Yet honor gnaws me with its silent flame,
And restless nights make stars their judging light.

I saw it with these eyes – the act so foul,
A shadow dance of greed in moonlit shade.
The echoes still within my memory howl,
A scene where honest hearts and dreams decayed.
They think me safe, like summer birds at rest,
Their foul deeds cradled safe within their nest

But loyalty, it seems, is double-edged,
Betrayal stings with its own whip so keen.

To see them weave their lies, my spirit pledged
Against such wrong. I cannot stand between
The paths before me, thorns on either side,
Each step a test where trust and falsehood stride.

The silent boy, they think they've tamed his voice,
To be a pawn within their crooked game.
Yet silence breeds a tempest, a fierce choice
That burns and yearns to write across its name:
This truth that seethes and festers in the dark,
A fiery ember waiting for its spark.

For now, I walk amongst them, head held high,
A mask in place, my troubled heart unseen.
Each word they speak, another woven lie,
While vengeance coils inside me, ever keen.
The weight I bear, it crushes with disdain,
Each breath a battleground amidst this pain.

To speak would be relief, like storm-washed air,
To break this bond of silence, bring them down.
But consequence lies heavy, like a snare,
The price of justice weighs upon my frown.
To name their sins, to wear the traitor's crown...
And yet, to hold this back may see me drown.

They think they have me caged, their will in hand,
But in the dark, a plan begins to bloom.
A reckoning is born, a righteous stand
To end their games of avarice and gloom.

Who knows what fate awaits with dawn's first ray,
If scorn and anger will become my plight.
Yet one thing holds, come what may,
I will stand tall, and bring their wrongs to light!
