First of all: Big shoutout to my friend Charley-the-Dragon ! Coincidentally we came up with basically the same idea at the same time! Just letting you know, neither of us tried to copy the other. XD Also, read her rant about the fanon. It's SO accurate!

Anyway...
The issue shown here is something that has genuinely been baffling me ever since I started getting into TF2. Honestly, I just have no idea why so many people seem to draw/write Medic as this helpless damsel in distress and whiny princess who is completely helpless without all the “real men” on the team. (I won't even go into all the OOC shipping here at this point.)

Neither Medic's voice lines in the game, nor the comics, nor the official videos portray him as a puny pushover. He's an insane, brilliant scientist, who doesn't give a shit about other people's well-being unless it’s beneficial to him. This man cares more about his experiments and birds than about any human being out there.

Sure, he doesn’t do as much damage as the power classes, but that’s not his job after all. He’s there to keep his team mates alive. That’s the reason the whole enemy team goes for him - he's one of the most important people on the battlefield!
Yes, playing Medic in the game is stressful and yes, you will die a lot. But if the players can't handle a role where a giant target is printed on their foreheads and they want to hide behind the Heavy or Soldier with the prettiest hat constantly it's their choice. But their actions as players are not representative of the Medic’s actual personality!

Quite the contrary if you ask me: He knows that he isn't the strongest at combat, at least not compared to guys like Soldier or Heavy. He knows the whole enemy team will immediately go for his head because he’s got such an important role. And STILL he rushes to the front to heal and keep his team mates alive. That isn’t something a weakling and coward would do! He is the one saving and protecting the others, especially after Gray’s robots started attacking. The reason his comrades do everything in their power to shield him from damage is because they know they wouldn’t last a single day without him!
So yeah. I think a lot of people fail to (or just don’t care to) differentiate between the behaviour of the player that controls the class in the game and the actual, canon character Medic.
