Annnddd this is the reason why no one has probably heard from me today XDDDIntroducing Emrys, a pure bred Australian Shepherd my Dad and I found at Petco for adoption today
(Though, he was actually still in the van and they told us that they had an Aussie in the van still because he was afraid to come out)He's about 2 years old and very sweet. The organization that had him was called "A Doggy Dog World Rescue." Apparently they had just got him yesterday from Roton, New Mexico. His previous owners apparently let his collar get embedded into his neck, so he does have scarring. He gets frightened easily by the smallest things (Like the ice machine and our tiny poodle) but has a thing for my sisters cats. She hates him because he chases them D: I gotta somehow train him to not growl and chase them. I think he might be frightened of them, because he tries to back a way from them and only goes after them if they hiss and run.
But anyways, he's a sweet dog, LOVES attention and hugs.
He is named Emrys after what the Druids refer to Merlin as in the tv show, Merlin

dogs like most preditory animals have a chase reflex when other animals run. doesn't matter what animal. also why the chase cars. they'll chase dogs, cats, deer, rabbits, anything that trys to flee. the best thing to do would be to get the cats and the dog aquanted with each other's scent i guess, and then slowly get them to share a room without bugging out.
done this once with a dog about that size and an adult cat. the cat didn't like it much and the dog just wanted to play rather than hurt, so we had the dog at leash end and the cat on my other side. just within nose touching range. they got along ok after a few hours of sitting, stroking, and some nose tapping.
me tapping the cat's nose mostly to get him to stop growling. (the tap would be about the same pressure as just tapping your finger gently on a desk.) a trick i learned from spending time with the kitties. tho, if the cat's frustraited enough he'll take it out on the nearest thing he can sink his claws into..from hand to leg.

We are gonna try this one method where we put the dog in the crate so he can't hurt the cats and the cats can just go investigate him without having to worry. Then we will probably go to the leash method

no problem!~ i think the crate would work well enough, but the dog may bark alot more. as long as the cats realize he can't reach them they tend to relax.

well that's a first for me. i've seen dogs who don't bark much, but never one who doesn't at all.

Yeah, I don't know why he does either, I don't know if it's because the previous owners or what. He only seems to growl and that's all the noise that comes out of him XDDD

He is beautiful! When we rescued or Lab and also with our Cocker they used to chase our cats wanting to play with them, but the cats soon put them in their place xD

OOOO what a gorgeous looking dog!!! I Love Aussie shepherds :3 and its great that he is from a rescue. Both our current dogs came from one and they are the best dogs in the world... If you manage to get him to stop bothering the cats, please share so I can use it on our puppy XD
