Kasaurus In reply to ??? [2014-05-13 01:35:46 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! And I know how that feels, there's still images I wish I could draw but never seem to have the time, and when I do, they decide to not turn out right.
I do need to give my characters more attention myself though, but commissions come first. I hope the day will come when each character gets their own reference and at least one picture dedicated to them. ;v;

One day :'D Main characters of mine come first with updating/getting a ref sheet, and then I'll focus some more on other characters, but I have to time it right when I'm not riddled by art block or have lots of owed art to people xD

Some of my characters are the same way, most of them that don't have refs yet I adopted because I liked the designs, but just haven't found time to get a pic/ref of them up yet. Most I've either doodled or sketched though, but haven't gotten further than that.
I like commissions sometimes, especially when I get fun characters to work with, and money haha. But they do take up time that I could be using for other things. I can deal with that though, I need the money, and I'm thankful I can get any at all. ;u;

Yesss that's the same situation mine are in haha ^^
Yes true, plus the fact you guys need money whereas at this point in time I do not, since Oyster cards make travelling in London hardly ever more than Β£2 per journey, I live with my parents and going back to healthcare again etcetc. But money still sounds good
Thankful you can get any... Do I have to explain what goes through the mind of the average person that takes a gander through your gallery lolol? XD
A friend asked me the other day, if friends asked for a commission, would they have to pay? which took me by surprise, and I wasn't entirely sure what to say but my mind immediately went to a journal or something I've read on here, I'm not sure who it was, might've even been you idek, about friends and family wanting free art often and the implications of that.
What are your thoughts on that sort of thing?
Personally at this point in time for me I might accept since I'm unsure of my ability to reproduce most characters to a degree I'm happy with so it would be good practice. In the end we agreed I'd do some stuff of her PokΓ©mon Black team, but when I have some time lol (her game got deleted so might as well make a tribute XD) so it's more of a request I'd say

Yeah, here money is hard to come by for lots of people, us included most of the time, since we have to live paycheck to paycheck due to the high cost of... everything.. and only my dad having a job. So any extra I can make is good, though we still need to get the animals fixed and to the vet since my parents never did, so now it falls on me pretty much, and anything pet related is expensive. x.x
Yes, thankful, because skill in art doesn't always dictate how much money you make. I know artists on here with better art than me that barely get anything for their art. Plus because times are hard, not as many people have money and are willing to spend on art, so even the best artists that used to get tons of artists may even have noticed a decline in the amount of people commissioning.
If someone asked me for a 'commission', then yes, they'd have to pay. There's no such thing as a free commission xD The term 'commission' means you get paid. What your friend was thinking of is probably a request, or free art. (as you stated at the end)
My thoughts on it is... I don't really like when people (even family/friends) expect free art from me, and when they ask or bug me, it makes me not want to do it. I like giving spontaneous gifts instead, and surprise people. It's a turn-off when family or friends think that just because they know me that they should get art free? Because... it is still work, would you ask a friend to fix your car for free if that was their job? Or mow your lawn? Or any other kind of work? It's the same thing.Β
If you want to do the art for them, that's one thing, and it's fine to want to do free art for friends, but I don't like feeling pressured into it because they think you 'owe' them free art just because you can. You know? So if you want the practice and have time for it, then feel free to do it for them. Just don't let anyone push you around. cx

At least puts off getting them to the vet and stuff. It shouldn't be so expensive x.x
Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but good for you guys haha cx
Yep xD And ok, it's good that she's not pressuring you, and I understand the curiosity behind the question. Best thing to do is inform people c:
(And if someone doesn't want to be your friend because you won't make them free art, they're not a really good friend D: So I hope none of your friends are like that. ;n; )

Kids are cruel a lot of the time, and it really sucks when they don't grow out of it Dx
I was never bullied to that degree luckily, but was mostly just ignored unless people wanted something from me. After getting taken advantage of so many times, I started being less willing to do stuff for people for free, especially art things, since the people never really cared about anything but getting something free. :/ Now I usually only give gifts to good friends when I have the time or motivation for it.
Glad to hear you're doing better now though, that's always good to hear. c:

Indeed. I wonder why it's necessary for humans to start being cruel in the first place :/Β
Yeah that sucks :/ I'm guessing they didn't value the art for much either since they didn't have to give anything for it... I know people used to get me to buy them things and never pay me back, but by that point my confidence was pretty low and I couldn't say hang on a second, bugger off, lol.
Haha thanks ^^ it is isn't it
