Man I took a few pics of my cousin doing the exact thing, my only problem was HORRIBLE lighting in the building b/c it was an inside competition. So pretty much all of my images were a big blur. I couldn't get my cam on a setting to get the images this clear. Nice work .

Yeah I knew it was going to be hard to be as far away from her as I was to get the pics to come out clear. I just got my Nikon D80 a few months ago. I'm still getting use to all the different options it has to offer , there's so many. I haven't bought anything extra for my cam yet either. I just have the one lense, Nikkor 18-135mm. I don't have a hot shoe. One day when I get around to it I will invest in one, for the replies.

I looked at your shots posted from the barrel event with your cousin (?) It looks like you wanted to celebrate her, and the candids do the best job at that. When you are a photographer, you are a biographer, which is much more than a simple spectator. Photograph your family and friends who are there to celebrate your cousin watching the competition; photograph your tickets; photograph the things that make your celebration unique. Photography equipment and processing is expensive and time consuming, so shoot the things that make it worth your time!
Bla bla, sorry...

The main reason I went besides getting to see my cousin for the first time in over a year was b/c her mom wanted me to get pics of her barrel racing. She's never been able to get good enough pics of her. She wanted some that she could blow up bigger than a 4x6. Which to her the pics that I took were "awesome & wonderful" as she said. To me I knew I was missing something. Yes I do know what you mean on the candids, majority of mine are b/c they seems to be the best pics to me. I took some pics at my aunts mother & father's 60 anniversary. Instead of just waiting until they are nicely posed and ready for everyone to get the shots, I also took the ones where they were getting ready for everyone to take the pics. Everything in between b/c to me that's the best. I'm the only one with an 80 year old man sitting there showing peace signs with his hands. One of the boys trying to hurry and chew his food before the pics are taken so he doesn't look like a cow chewing on cud . But yes I did get pics of everything in between her barrel racing. Them driving around on the golf cart, her getting her horse ready, her in the back shoots waiting to come out. I do thank you though for taking the time to respond and give pointers, it's always nice to hear a fellow friends tips. They are well apreciated .
