I think what really makes it the best is that the chapter doesn't have anything Lewd in it whatsoever and just completely focuses on the plot.

I liked the idea that "Death" herself was touched by an innocent child's impending fatality and couldn't cope with that. Having to deal with a lose of a child myself, that really hit home...

Oh yeah. For several different reasons.
Both stories in this volume were pretty good, the first involved lots of palace intrigue, and the second short story (the one with Lala) was a bit of a tearjerker.
Plus the monsters are really well thought out. He did more than merely stick on a tail/fur and call it done.
