Outcasts

I am a Dragon.

I am what the humans call a Night Fury.

I am the most powerful hunter in the world.

I am death incarnate.

And yet I find myself captured by a human child.

Not by the ropes that had knocked me from the sky, no they had been cut away by the very child that I now have at my mercy. No it is his eyes that hold me back, stopping me from doing what I know I should.

Behind the fear of the moment they have a loneliness to them, a deep loneliness of one who wants to be accepted, who wants to be like those around him but will never be. I know that feeling; for I am one of the last of my kind, perhaps even the last. I am not like the other lesser Dragons who inhabit this corner of the world, and I never will be.

In this human's green eyes I see a reflection of myself, an outcast who is surrounded by those who do not understand, can not understand what it is to be like him. I have never fitted in with the other Dragons here, I have never taken food back for the ancient one like they do, why should I? I am not like them. I am smarter, faster, better. This human is the same, any other of his kind would have killed me as I lay helpless in the ropes, but he had not been able to. He is an outcast too.

I let out a roar, the human tries to push himself further into the ground away from my razor sharp teeth. But I let him be.

For I am a outcast.

And so is he.
