Description

---

Here are the communal areas that your characters are able to visit and interact with other stories upon entering the Forest. As the events and group progress, these places will change so make sure that you check back!

Also, please note that the areas shown are not physically located in these exact positions or in comparison to each other. Any path in The Forest may lead a character straight to the place they desire to be without passing by any other area. Click here for more information.

[AREAS OF THE FOREST]
  • Keeper's Citadel
The Keeper's Citadel and the Neverending Tower is situated on an island elevated one hundred meters above the water level of the lake. The only access to the Citadel is through finding the bridges that lead from the forest directly onto the Entrance floor of the Citadel. Only those pure of heart and firm in their determination will be able to easily reach the bridge. More about the Keepers can be found here .

    • Lake of Visions
Little is known about the Lake of Visions, which is considered a part of what many jestingly refer to as the "Keeper's Playground." This area of the forest, along with the beach and the island, are generally off-limits to the people of Märchen. Legends claim that if one sleeps on its shores under the light of the full moon, one would be granted with True Visions of the future in one's dreams.

  • Cottage in the Woods
This little cottage in the woods has housed many a traveler... and somewhat more. It has been well-kept through the years and always stocked full of supplies or...surprises. Passerby's have had many a story to tell about this cottage. They claim that sometimes, you can see a cheery glow from inside, perhaps an old man smoking a pipe on his rocking chair outside, or a woodcutter putting down his axe, or perhaps a hunter carrying in his catch of the day, or even more strangely, the silhouette of a large, furred animal walking about on its hind legs like a person!

  • Glass Mountain
Supposedly built by dwarves, this mountain is a literal hive of passageways and tunnels that lead to a network of jewel mines ans dwarven cities that run under the ground for miles. Singing can sometimes be heard echoing up from deep underneath the surface. Glass Mountain is named so for its completely smooth slate-colored surface. Contrary to its name, "Glass Mountain" is not actually made out of glass, but some strange mixture of melted sand and rock that gives its surface a glossy finish. According to ancient tales, there once lived a dragon on top of the mountain and daily exposure to the heat of its internal inferno melted its hoard of jewels and precious metals, creating the structure we see today. As it stands, it is the tallest unnatural mountain in all of Märchen, rising to an elevation of 13,459 ft. or approximately 4,100 meters. We know this from the plaque that is carved onto the south-west base of the mountain, which has been verified by explorers that have climbed to the top through the roughly hewn path circling its surface.

    • There be Giants!
Giants have unfortunately made their abode in the forested area around the Glass Mountain. Dear traveler, we recommend you find a nice tree trunk to hide behind when you feel the ground shake as though the earth were splitting and the crash of trees in the distance. If you are discovered, do not fear. It seems that Giants are more fond of blackberry jam and fried eggs than the flesh of people, or so it is told!

  • Mirror Lake
Here we have an enchanted lake, filled with lost swords and the tinkling laughter of fairies. At night, the lightning-bugs come and fill the area with their glowing bodies, dancing across the water as though they were having their own celebration. The waters of the lake are considered holy by many of the animals and people that visit. Supposedly, they have been used to show the true face of evil sorcerors. On certain nights, you might even be able to catch a glimpse of a mermaid (or your own true self) when you gaze into its enchanted waters.

    • Farseer Pools
Filled with clear, sweet drinking water, these small springs are scattered around The Forest like oasis in a desert. The water that bubbles up into these springs and the water that fills Mirror Lake come from the same source. Thus, the magical atmosphere of Mirror Lake often transfer onto these sacred waters. It is said that a long time ago, explorers of The Forest stumbled across these pools after leaving Mirror Lake, and not knowing what they found, desecrated its waters. The next day, they awoke to discover great fins protruding from their backs and a gleaming fish-tail that took the place of their legs. They were cursed to live out the rest of their lives as Mermen, unable to walk on dry land ever more. When you look into the waters of one of these pools, you might still see the curve of a silver tail glimmering in its depths.

  • Fay Village
Nicknamed "dwarf village" by some mischievous travelers who have seen grander cities, this village is rather... minute. It is a quiet little place, mostly thatched-roof houses and wooden fences, but it is the root of many mysteries. For one, it is only on the map due to it having somehow produced some of the most well-known craftsmen in all of Märchen. Particularly of note are the tailors, woodcrafters, and shoemakers (no-one knows the reason for this, truly). Travelers, do not fear, you can easily provision yourself in this town. Just head to the General Store or stay in the Inn until the weekend to catch a glimpse (and empty your money-bags!) on the exotic goods of the Bazaar.

    • The Bazaar
Another mystery would be the Bazaar. These quiet townspeople utterly transform their town every weekend into a colorful, exotic thing. They hang banners all across the houses, erect brilliantly patterned tents of every kind, and cover the ground in an even greater array of tarps brimming with glittering wares. It's a wonder the whole town's industry isn't based on tourism for the sheer volume of people that come to buy and barter goods from all across Märchen.

  • Crystal Cave
A place of much magic and self-reflection, those wishing to strike it rich or begin a hermitage make a yearly (or monthly) pilgrimage to the Crystal Cave, famed place of Märchen Legend. The cave itself is filled with glittering crystals that are worth very little money and it seems that stealing them brings a curse of bad luck, so thieves have avoided them for centuries. It is said the Lord Grimm himself once spent a night inside the cave and awoke with a firm conviction in mind: to become the wisest Keeper in the lands! Perhaps those who spend the night there get a dash of wisdom as well!
