Does one ear flop?

Yep, unfortunately it looks like they never finished posting either of her ears - one stands well but still leans inwards a bit, the other has a pocket that makes it flop. It's sad, because it really is a lovely crop.

Aww thats too bad. I had a dobe that i used to run with and one ear flopped because his owner said that it got infected and forgot to re post it

I didn't do it, but honestly was your comment necessary?

Its not a disaster actually, its breed standard.

Uh. Its really nothing to get upset over to be honest. A dobe just doesnt look like a dobie without cropped ears, otherwise they just look like a hound. Though it works on some of them.

GoldieRetriever In reply to HanneDobermann [2011-05-17 14:36:54 +0000 UTC]

a dobie is a dobie. with or without ears. docking is not natural.

there is strong evidence that this is the case. The puppy has a fully developed nervous system and a well-developed sense of pain. While the puppy cannot tell us that it is in pain, many biological markers show that pain is occurring.

If you are a dog's friend, do not buy puppies without tail or ears, please.

Okay, well if they are put under, well then all is good. And I WILL adopt a dobie with already done ears and tail.

So yes, in other words, it was unnecessary. Do you ever wish to circumsize your son? Did he/will he give you permission to do it? Same thing. It's a person's preference. We have an uncropped doberman, but I don't for a second wish that we didn't have the choice.

I dont have a child. but you are right its the same shameless prozess.

KateIndeed In reply to GoldieRetriever [2011-05-15 21:45:40 +0000 UTC]

It was a hypothetical situation.. but regardless. As long as people needlessly circumcise their children, I don't see why people who crop their dogs should be seen any differently.

it's illegal in germany. And I am proud of this rule. Other cultures have other religions.
But dogs cant "speak" when people cut their tail.

Dogs don’t need ear cropping. There isn't a norm that dictates that certain breeds require ear cropping. Even if show dogs may score higher if they have cropped ears, the procedure is painful and it is not necessary.

I love Dobies. Planning on getting one as soon as life settles down a bit. Beautiful dog, the shape of the head is gorgeous.

They're a lot of work! This one stayed with us for a day; she was a typical Doberman, sweet, challenging and absolutely fun. I would have kept her, most likely, if she didn't chase cats. That's the hardest habit to break in a Doberman.. has to be taught from puppyhood, cat tolerance.

Good thing I live in a house full of 'em, eh? I've always loved Dobermans, but I've realized that getting one right off would be a stupid thing to do. I'm getting ready to go to college, there's no eed to get one now when I won't have the time for it. But I will get one eventually. I have a few breeders on my mailing list.

hahaha, I'm in college as well.. I don't have my own Doberman yet, though maybe in the distant future. They're a breed that takes a lot of money and attention, so I figured it'd be best to wait until after I'm done with school and have a ton of money.

I might get one during college, since I live so close to it. But I'll have to see what life hands to me. My grandfather is dead-set against them. He think's they're killer dogs. I keep trying to tell him they're like hyper Labs, but he doesn't want to listen.

Try and get him to go to a dog show with you, and let him meet a few of the dogs. A lot of people are biased that way and won't change their mind even with proof in front of their face. There are also a lot of Dobermans who are service dogs and have their CGCs - try and find one near you to introduce him to. That's about all I can recommend.. I'm lucky in that my dad grew up with a pack of Dobermans, so I never had that issue.

Unfortunately, I live out in the middle of nowhere. I literally have to drive forty miles to find somewhere to shop that isn't a Wal-mart. Speaking of which, the nearest one of those is ten miles away. I don't think they hold dog shows within two hundred miles of where we live, sadly. But he'll find out just how sweet they are when I finally bring one home.

Hey, just make sure you know he'll actually keep it.. Or you have an alternative place to live should he decide the dog's not worth his time. Dogs are a lifetime commitment. I'm sure you'll love your pup when the time comes, though. I miss my pup.

Oh no, it'll be mine, I'll just bring it up to their camp on the lake to visit. Our Rotties love swimming, and it took a while for him to finally admit they're not bad. I don't live with him, but he does live close by where I visit him every day.

Ah! I'm sure he'll come around. Dobermans are definitely a breed all of their own - you never really look at another breed the same way once you have one. They're a lot of work, but so worth it.
