Bio

Emma is the only daughter of a machinist and inventor, and was named for her mother, who died during childbirth. A hardworking man, Emma's father spent most of his days in his workshop. Being an unsafe place for a child, Emma spent her childhood wandering the streets of Dublin. A bright and precocious young girl, she developed a fascination with clockwork gizmos, and became very adept at snatching watches from pockets in order to have a steady supply of gears and springs for small mechanical inventions. As her skills developed, she soon figured out the mechanics of steam power, and, much to her delight, gunpowder. She took great joy in tormenting passerby and committing petty acts of vandalism with her creations, until her reign of terror ended when she was caught by the police trying to blow up a statue. Her father, having made quite a name for himself developing industrial equipment during the Revolution, decided to take her on as his apprentice, to hone her natural talents and train her to one day take over his company. Things went well until the fateful day Emma's project exploded, taking the use of her right arm and the life of her father. Not being of age, a higher-up from her father's company was named to be her legal guardian until she came of age. Blaming herself for the death of her father, Emma returned to the streets she wandered as a youth, squandering her inheritance in a months-long debauched binge. After a huge scandal involving the young inventor being discovered in a compromising position with the daughter of a visiting ambassador, the higher-ups at her father's company grew concerned her debauchery and odd proclivities would be bad for the business, and devised a plan to render her powerless; an arranged marriage. Despite her protests, the scheme was set in motion, and would have gone through if not for a daring escape, in which Emma flew to England in a hot air balloon sewn from the white dress she was to wear to her wedding the next day. Landing outside of London, Emma spent the rest of her money constructing her flying home. With no funds and no home to go back to, she has set to wandering the world, touching down (or more often crashing) from city to city until she wears out her welcome and must move on to her next big adventure.

Mental Description
Highly intelligent, Emma's talents lie in the fields of engineering and mechanics with a penchant for constructing clockwork devices and things that go boom. She is generally friendly towards others, as she has learned that making friends is far more advantageous to making enemies. She gets herself into a fair bit of trouble, but her antics are far more mischevious than malicious, and her quick wits and sharp tongue are usually enough to get her out of whatever tight spot she's gotten herself into. She tries to stay out of more serious trouble, but is not above resorting to stealing and piracy in order to get by. She is haunted by an accident that happened as a teen, when one of her more ambitious inventions exploded prematurely, killing her father, her only surviving family member, and leaving her arm disfigured. To dull both the physical and mental pain of the experience, she has taken to drinking absinthe at a constant rate, leaving her in a practically perpetual state of giddiness. While not keen to discuss her preferences, Emma has a weakness for beautiful women, and, despite having wed while traveling through time, will flirt openly (it doesn't count if your wife hasn't even been born yet, you see).
