So someone posted a headcanon that Coulson has a very patriotic dog [link]
And Chris Evans said in an interview Cap would be the kind of guy who'd watch your dog while you're away [link]
And really I could sit here and make excuses all night but really I just wanted to draw Cap with a dog because I thought it'd be cute.

Also, Labrador Retrievers are the most American dog. It was between that and a Beagle for awhile, but I made my decision. Though it's possible I'm biased since I own a Lab myself.
