Starting off the corruption series, one of the coolest looking villains of the MLP: FIM universe, Nightmare Rarity! Taken over by the same dark forces that corrupted Princess Luna, Nightmare Rarity is a vicious, exploitative warmonger, leading a massive shadow army against Equestria and her friends. Originally featured in the official comic, the arc took place in a level of dark that the show rarely crosses, resulting in one of the best comic storylines of recent memory, going into incredible depth of its character development in directions I don't think the show can go, although an adaptation of this arc would be incredible. With the obvious comparison to Green Lantern's Big Bad Parallax, this pony will give you nightmares.Related content

There are actually TWO ongoing comics now. The main storyline (which has been fairly good consistently) and a series of spotlight comics, first on individual characters, then on "team-ups" between various mane or background ponies. Both series have been approached with the same level of care that goes into the show, rather than just being a quick cash-grab project, and it shows. Either one has been better than about 90% of DCs current lineup. I highly suggest picking up at least a few of the arcs.

She is quite badass, both as Rarity and her Nightmare form. Easily one of the coolest villains.
