Description

I never knew the Beacon City in the early days of its existence beneath the waves, but I've heard stories. Only the uppermost rooms of the Palace itself were safe for us, under the direct protection of Ahes. The Finfolk had overrun the Walls, Churchhill, Gardenhill and the Lower Wards, and the Slaugh roamed the ruins, blaming us for their unfortunate deaths in the Fall. The Beg-Sabrenn have worked tirelessly to retake our city, clearing the beasts from the Hills and making the Gwantenn safe for us to grow and live our lives in peace. Their valiant efforts and heroic sacrifices will be remembered in songs.

The world beneath the Mor Bras is one of danger and Ys-Beneath-The-Waves is under constant Threat. Giant Sea Monsters like the Coinchenn, the Curruid and the Kraken drive mindlessly through the fragile city, The Vicious Finfolk prowl the dark alleyways of the Lower Wards and the Vengeful Slaugh of the Old City seek revenge on the new inhabitants for the traumatic magical doom that befell them at the city’s fall.

Every Marie-Morgane is required to take up a weapon or Arkane to defend her city from these constant threats, but the brunt of the defense falls to the elite warriors, the Beg-Sabrenn, an elite unit made up of dedicated fighters, drawn from knights, soldiers and adventurers of the land.

The Beg-Sabrenn is broken into three units: The Bridgeguard, the Reef-Hunters and Ahes’s Spear. The Bridge-Guard is a defensive body, guarding the magically warded bridges between the Hills and Walls of Ys from threats from below. The Reef-Hunters patrol the Lower Wards and inside the massive sea-wall, clearing out colonies of Finfolk in the dark, twisting ruins. Ahes’ Spear defend against surface threats carrying out raids on shipping and coastal settlements. Any of the branches can conscript nearby civilians or Arkanists to assist in emergencies, relying on the basic martial training given to all Marie-Morgane at Walltop, a fortress built on top of the Old Walls of Ys that serves as the groups HQ.

Of the three Branches, the Reef-Hunters are by far the most dangerous, with the Finfolk inflicting large casualties on the Patrols and forward posts as the Marie-Morgane struggle to wipe them from the ruins The Lower Wards and inside the massive machinery of the seawall and a maze of ruined streets and tunnels, laden with hazards and ambush points. However, it is thanks to the vigilant efforts and sacrifices of the Beg-Sabrenn that the Hills and Walltop are safe for the inhabitants of the Beacon city.

Today's mermaid is Ai'Sha min Iram, a Saracen Paladin and former member of the Urzh Kroashent. Betrayed by those closest to her, Ai'Sha found her way to Ys-Beneath-The-Waves, and set to using her formidable martial prowess to rise in the ranks of the Beg-Sabrenn, becoming a well-respected leader in the Reef-Hunters despite being one of the newest members of the City. With a chip on her shoulder, she volunteers to lead the most dangerous missions into the Lower Wards.
