Whew! A lot of time went into this little guy. I probably spent 20+ hours on him from start to finish. Sadly he got 2 cracks on his underbelly but they are pretty small and I filled them in with black so they are not very noticeable, plus they are on his stomach rather than out where you can see. I just finished the Heart of the Swarm expansion's single player mode and really got a good close up of what these guys look like and I think I did rather well. I'm making a ultralisk next and I wish I had the high resolution model to look at when I started making him because there are some changes I would make.He has thus far been named Sparky-Boom-Boom
Because of the gloss it can be hard to see some of his detail in the picture.

Very nice work! Really looking forward to your rendition of the ultra. Funny that you chose those two, I also did sculpts of an ultra and a baneling, and I'm working on an immortal right now.

Actually, among the reference pictures I used to make my ultralisk was yours! The picture you have posted that shows the process and has the rows showing the different angles really helped me out

Great! I had hoped some people would take my materials and show us their own renditions, but apart from you I haven't seen much so far. Back when I finished the ultralisk, I also posted a how-to on Team Liquid to get some SC2 nerds into sculpting

I just checked it out and I liked it. I've always been a build up from nothing sculptor rather than cutting away what I don't need so its nice to see the other side

I tend to do more of the happy/cute things but honestly I'm attempting to get a fine arts scholarship this semester and the judges don't seem to respond well to happy... So I'm giving detailed creepy a try

I hear you use a clay that doesn't like to hold its shape. Why not try a foil or wire base? That's what I ended up doing. Also, if it is air dry, why not patch the cracks with it? I ended up doing that later on too.

This piece was fired in a kiln to about 1800 degrees... foil/wire would have melted out
I was using a water based clay instead of an oil based one so it had to be fired

Careful when you handle it, so that it doesnβt blow up! Hu hu hu! I kid, but it does look very impressive.
Very much like the Baneling, what it is made of I donΒ΄t dare to veture a guess. Though it is very obvious that you have great talent, and you should be proud.
The prospect of a Ultraliskt is quite exhilarating, must be very demanding to do this and an Ultraliskt sounds even harder. Very good job, I am impressed.
On a side note, I did actually prefer the first Baneling model. It was smaller and had more thorns and spikes, but still love the lings, hens my nickname ^^.

This guy and my ultralisk are both made of clay. The people working around me while I make them think I'm crazy because the clay I'm using is really close to porcelain and is one of the WORST to sculpt with because it doesn't like to hold its shape really well but honestly it is all I have to work with >.>

Haha I see, well you are crazy in a good way, and though itΒ΄s hard for me to appreciate how tricky your sculpting is, it is very much enjoyable to see the end result.
I can imagine that balance must be an issue, not to mention the blades, they must be hell to render ^^.
Yeah the current model is pretty cool, I just preferred the old one
