Description Vikings! Norse mythology has been an interest for long. I even did my own set of runes and consecrated them to the 3 Norns.... But apart from this aspect, Vikings were travelers, explorers and traveled far for good stretch of periods. Woman stayed to raise their family and sometimes even having to defend themselves and loved ones. Here is a comp about my vision of a man who goes on the ship and if the Gods are with him will return home.

This is a submission for for the June / July contest. A Big thank you to all the stock providers:

Thank you, I'm glad it speaks to you! I think I partly got the idea for this one because my ancestors were sailors and it goes way back. The sea and boats have always spoken to me on some level and although I have no viking ancestors there's something about that culture and the people that I feel drawn towards. Its just instinctive and there's no rationale behind it. The spirituality and beliefs of the pre-christian era of the north are very earth based and I would even say (although I'm not sure if any parallel has been established) that it has elements of shamanism to it, particularly in the practice of Asatru. Many people would think Shamanism comes from Native American Indians but really the core belief manifests in different cultures all over the world. Also being Canadian where the weather is harsh and unforgiving bears similarities with the living conditions of Nordic countries as well. Norse people were practical and down to earth, their Gods reflected a fierceness that reflects in the culture and views of life imo. Its absolutely Fascinating......so there you go, this deviation manifests this body of belief (and the male model is a handsome devil too..... I'm allowed to indulge in a bit of eye candy... but that is another matter altogether )

You're welcome! Very interesting background! I agree, I think the Nordic folk were, are very down to Earth and understood so much that may be forever lost now. It's great that so many people care enough to keep the old traditions and art of the North alive. Nothing wrong with eye candy! it's natural!

I think more and more people are going back to their roots and redevelop a core belief. In this time of unrest throughout the world having a sense of belonging and the desire to belong somewhere even if it means tribal orientation, it is still something to believe in. It does not matter Who or What you believe in...its the faith that counts and is a never ending source of strength to latch on to. Eons ago the individual gained a sense of purpose and Self through the tribe and its beliefs. To be outcast was the worse punishment. Despite modern thinking that core need is still there and more people realize that I think.

I think that's true, it is for me and I feel like I've been an outcast. Though I feel like I've been coming closer. I think art is a good way to reconnect to your roots or to the past. If not then at least it honors those who came before us.
