Description
Commission for ~roothragon of his lovely white dragon being a badass desert mage at dusk in the white sand dunes. This got a lot more involved than I planned, but I'm glad for it. It was so much fun to work on! Originally Rooth commissioned me at my regular prices a long time ago, but paid to add hours to it, so I completed it sooner.26 hours in Photoshop with an Intuos 3 tablet

Very cool piece. I adore the way the cool blues of the spell shades everything around it and then contrasts s well with the light peaking just over the mountains. Very magical.

I absolutely love this!! it's so detailed to the smallest thing! The color contrast with all of it is just stunning! I love the little lizard and how the smoke's caught up in his wing. This is just overall just amazing!!

Wow...there is so much good with this that I don't know where to begin! The proportions and clothing detail of the dragon, the whispyness of the magic or the elaborate waves of shifting sands. All your effort really shows in this! well done.

one thing I always tend to looks at is the colors, and my god how pleasing the colors are in this painting! the magic ball thingy he is holding just stands out well, but the background could have been a bit darker, however it is nonetheless an amazing piece.

Interesting in that we had a partial solar eclipse here on Sunday 5/20 that looked just exactly like what you have on the left side of the scene.

Oh wow, this is absolutely gorgeous. The background just has such a lovely melancholy feel to it, and I love love LOVE the flow of the magic and fur. Super pretty! <3 My only one itty bitty of critique would be that his right foot doesn't seem to be sinking into the sand the way the other one is, but that's hardly enough to detract from how beautiful this is X'D

Really cool! I love the contrasts and blues in this. The sky goes really well with the whole mood of this drawing. I like how the sand dunes go from really detailed to these nice plane shapes, and then the mountains in the background. I love that effect!

Oh, neat, I'm loving the white sands/blue lighting concept! All the shapes are really nice too, the smokiness of the magic along with the more abstract shapes of the dunes looks great

Thank you! I was so excited for this commission because of the lighting idea. I think the most fun part was the smokey magic. Twisty fun to pain abstract shapes!

I absolutely ADORE your use of color here. In general I love how you use color, but here it really brings the piece to life. It's amazing the kind of hues that the sand has, and the blue and orange contrast is really pretty.

Really cool. I love the way his magic is carried in the wind, and is collected in his wing. It's a shame the yellow from the sky doesn't pick up more in the dunes or on his skin, it almost makes everything look more blue than white since it's not reacting to that lovely gold color at all.

Did you use a stock photo for the starry sky or did you dot out every single one yourself?

Thank you! I made a couple clusters of dots by hand, then used the clone stamp tool to distribute it. I use that, and the eraser on and off to avoid getting the same looking star clusters and add variety, and then sometimes add more by hand. It works out well!

Ooh gotta keep that in mind next time I'd doing stars, or I could've done it that way when I drew a blizzard over about 10 pages of comic, oh well
