The Venandi Empire is comprised of 7 species of big cats, each with their own role in the greater society. Jaguars belong to the spiritual caste, taking the role of shamans, healers, and medium to the Venandi's patron spirit; The Spirit of The Hunt. Royalty often keep powerful blood shamans in their employ, to keep rivals in line with the unspoken threat of a blood curse. When royal heirs are born placental blood is reserved, and used as insurance to guard against familial insurrection. Many of the rituals performed by a Venandi blood shaman involve the act of the hunt, blood, and various bits of the hunted, which makes them seem pretty scary. But they spend an equal amount of time tending to the sick and wounded, and act as midwives as well.
