Sandra's POV

You were 6 and I was 8.
You where playing in the sandbox with your Barbie's one of them was wearing a white wedding dress while another was wearing a black tuxedo.
At first I thought that it was weird, after all Barbie was suppose to get married to Ken, not some other Barbie, but they where your Barbie's not mine, they could live however they wanted to. Sadly though there where some other kids that didn't agree with either of our thoughts.
They were two bigger kids who were 7, they towered over you being as small as you where.
They saw you marrying Barbie, to another Barbie, and decided that, that wasn't right, so they confronted you about it.
"Why is your Barbie marrying your other Barbie? Two girls can't get married!"
You looked up at them, fear starting to shake in your hazel eyes.
"W-why cant two girls get married?"
You where so young.
So innocent.
You simply didn't understand.
"Because its gross! Girls are suppose to marry guys! They can't marry other girls!"
Yet you still didn't understand.
In your eyes love was love.
Gender didn't matter, as long as two people where happy and loved each other.
But of course not everyone especially the two boys saw things that way.
The older boy, Tristan grabbed your Barbie wearing the tuxedo out of your small hands, and pulled a pair of small blue scissors out of his pocket. He cut off all the hair on your Barbie's head, leaving enough on so it made her look like she had a boy's haircut.
Tristan Johnson and his friend Kyle Peterson then proceeded to kick sand at you.
Tears built up in your beautiful hazel eyes and ran down your sun kissed cheeks uncontrollably, as the boys mercilessly kicked more sand at you. You where helpless being so much younger and smaller.
I couldn't bear to see what they where doing to you, so that's when I decided it was time for me to intervene.
"Leave her alone!"
Both the boys turned around and laughed when they saw me.
"Why should we? She should know that it's yucky for two girls to be togeth-"
Tristan never got a chance to finish his sentence.
Why?
Because I had punched Tristan Johnson in the face.
Tears instantly started to gather at the corner of his eyes, as he ran off to the other side of the playground Kyle not too far behind.
I picked up the Barbie that Tristan had dropped and wiped away a couple of the tears that had continued to fallen on your face.
When you finally opened your eyes, they where full of wonder.
I handed back your Barbie, as you continued to stare at me, eyes wide, mouth slightly hanging open.
Then you held out your small hand to me, and the voice of a little angel rang out to me.
"My names Hanna! I'm 6! "
I held your small hand in my slightly bigger one and shook.
"Im Sandra, I'm 8 sorry your Barbie's hair got cut off..."
you smiled at me, revealing a gap where your two front teeth should have been and started to smooth the Barbie's hair over.
"Its ok! her hair may be shorter but she's still a girl! Girls can have short hair two! One time my mommy had short hair for a really, long time, so now Natasha can look like mommy! Do you want to play Barbie with me Sandra!"
I had just moved to our small town that summer, and was ecstatic to have made a new friend so quickly, even if you where two years younger I didn't care.
"Sure!"
"Ok then you can play with... Arial! Arial and Natasha are in love and where going to get married before those mean boys came over. Do you think its weird for two girls to be together?"
I took your other Barbie wearing the white wedding dress happily and thought about your question a little.
I had never head about two girls getting married, but really why would that matter?
"No why would it be weird?"
You flashed me that same cute little smile again and we finished the wedding between Natasha and Arial.
They kissed, then Natasha picked Arial up as they went off to have their little honeymoon.
I had never thought that meeting you would have such a big impact on my life.
I never thought that, that day at the park would lead to so much more.
