Raptor 1/5 - The Egret (2005)

Volunteer in group project:
Channel 10 had asked our animation department at uni if they could get a few people to help create a short bit of animation which would accompany a documentary they had produced. The documentary was called "Sleeping Giants," the clip goes for 23 seconds, and was aired on the 21st December '05, at about 1pm.

Working on the project were a few students and a few lecturers that formed the pre-production crew, and the 3D animation crew. Not being too familiar with 3D software yet I helped out in pre-production. I produced a rough storyboard, created a matt-painting background, and designed one of the three dinosaurs that were to be shown (I had the raptor)

At one stage we decided to give the dinosaurs feathers (as in this period of time they were thought by some scientists to have developed some). I designed 5 different raptors with different feathered outfits. Being set in Australia, I looked at Australian birds for inspiration, and the following is what I ended up with. In the end we decided not to go with the feathered dinosaurs (for several good reasons), though I thought it'd be cool to show the designs that didn't get used.
