Description
First and foremost, no, I don't think AIs are angels. Stealing work is an actual issue AIs have, and even then that seems more like a problem with the people who have the power to change the training-data than the AI technology itself.
(You can read my full opinion on the comments of this Journal: www.deviantart.com/61021376/jo… .)
However, despite its good intentions, this movement has gotten so big that people are just cashing out for clout. An example of this would be Soratheevilone 's post “Fuck AI art” (www.deviantart.com/soratheevil… ), where I was trying to leave some valid, neutral opinions to the situation given the comment I was replying to.
Sora, and a good portion of the other participants used derogatory or otherwise explicitly disparaging words to talk down to people they say are wrong.
[On the note of me leaving neutral opinions, apparently that's something that isn't allowed anymore, because someone told me I should stop "pretending" to be neutral.]
You know how a healthy, thriving debate should have two or more parties all willing to listen to eachother, regardless of whether they like the facts/opinions they present?
That is non-existent in the post mentioned above. And I would safely bet my life that most other "NoAI" posts are have that same toxicity in their comment section (if comments are allowed).
Another problem is that instead of making Journals, creators are opting to circlejerk a generic "NoAI" image (cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/i… ) , and uploading it with an unrelated, poorly written, or non-existent description.
This unnecessarily fills up people's feed with the same (spam) image. There are rarely ever variations.
It is low effort and it takes away from what the site is actually about, art. - And by definition, that means all of these "attention catalyst" posts are shitpots.
One final note I'd like to add is that this is DeviantArt, even if you're writing about the discussion in a Journal.
Personally, I believe the issue is way beyond the scope of being talked about on this platform.
I believe Reddit (r/DeviantArt), or some DeviantArt or NoAI guild on Discord would be a more appropriate location as everything and everyone's thoughts and opinions can be properly organized.
Thank you for reading my rant on the NoAI movement.
Please, help contribute to making this movement having less nasty members.
