Well, one of the HL2 designers was Viktor Antonov, the same guy who worked on Dishonored, so there's a reason for that

Oh that's neat. I knew his work from HL2, but didn't know Dishonored team hired him too.
That must be his signature style, then
Thief 2 is very old by now. The visuals are nothing like this of course, but it has the same idea of including technologic mechanisms into old buildings...
Maybe there are even earlier games which did that, but I don't know. Perhaps some of final fantasy series.

Your project's turning out well, it seems. I like this design very much. It's sad not that many people here care about it enough, though.
