Description Another one of those things for me that start as a vague picture in my head and when I go to paint/draw it or whatever it takes on more of a life of it's own and starts to gain some meaning and backstory as I work, instead of trying to come up with everything first and trying in vain to make it do what I wanted. Maybe this is just the more appropriate way for me to work on art.

Lots of different thoughts and interpretations here. Cognitive dissonance, earth/sky separation and mind/body separation, feeling like you're falling apart, feeling like you don't really exist here on this earth, feeling torn between one life and another.

Title inspired by Michio Kaku

P.S. And after all this time, I have included this artwork in a small project of mine: dA news article presenting pairs of artworks with a certain similarity between them, such that are otherwise created completely independantly from each other. Have a look and be surprised: [link]

I'm thinking this would be perfect for a wall panel on one of those studio-type houses I once visited because my sister was filmed for a dance video :B

Wow, i love the image. Very unique! Yah, i prefer to draw that way, too - start it with a vague notion of what's in my head and then the story just flows in as the details appear.
But yah - kinda makes me think (with the title of it) of the water-droplet description of all life that i heard somewhere. All of us are one ocean of life, but each one of us is just a droplet that pops up as other drops fall and return to the ocean as one, as you will eventually do as well.

That's a lovely interpretation/thought process for this piece thanks so much!

I left this image bookmarked, until I could gather my thoughts and leave a proper comment. For a start ... I was quite surprised with ~elma 's comment, it led my mind into an entirely new view over your work. But my initial reaction, was "Head in the clouds, feet on the ground" - And I asked Google on just where this phrase originated from, as I found myself in a memory lapse. Instead, I found this: [link] - An thoughtful article written from a contemporary Christian. I promise, it is a good read. I grew up in a communist country where religion was merely regarded as part of history, now only preserved as history and tradition (Orthodox Christianity). Thus, it is still news to me to see people somehow integrate religion in their lives - let alone in a sensible way. Religion aside, I will quote the end of this article as a proper comment for your artwork:

... He said that Jews are told to carry two stones to know their place in the universe…
One stone contains the words β€œI am made but of dust.”
The other bears β€œThe world was created for me.”

I guess I should express my awe at this comment... two months later. Yes it's been sitting in my message center for so long. I'm sorry. I was really... incredibly surprised and lovingly overwhelmed by this comment and I had no idea what to say to it. But thank you, very very much, reading what you said gives me great confidence in my work. And the quote you listed really struck me profoundly.

Thanks for the great comment

I generally ramble a lot. Sometimes, this causes some decent water ripples.

Oooh. Not only as beautiful as always, but very interesting too. Both conceptwise and sizewise. Very interesting proportions.

Beautiful job on the hair and face especially. The entire picture is gorgeous, and the whole idea behind it is wonderful as well. :] Very nice work!

I love this image, both as a painting and because the concept can be interpreted so many different ways. The first concept I thought of is that feeling that your feet are carrying you ahead of yourself, and you need to pour the rest of you into the new "location" mentally. And there are many more...

...excellent work.
