The lighting on his CHIN is weird? Self-effacement is bad, you know. I love the expression and mood of this piece.

Thank you! And.. yeah I go to CMU, and I'm a sophomore XD But I'm really not the one to be asking about this, since I have mostly negative things to say about it. It depends on what you'd like to do. If you're going into art, you had better be prepared to live in an intellectual bubble and be forced to work mainly a certain way. They give you very little real life experience, and frankly CFA grads have a really hard time finding jobs doing what they want. You have very strong work and it's very likely that you would get in. If you're interested in anything other than very conceptual art, maybe something like illustration, graphic design, sequential, etc, it's probably not the right school for you. They are very very into postmodernism and installation artwork, and also some forms of computer and interactive works. There is a small base for traditional artists, but not much, and NONE for arts like photography, illustration, etc. It's also frustrating because like I said before - they kind of keep you in an intellectual bubble... which is nice, except it's a lot of work to keep up, and sometimes it feels like you're wasting your life. Also, the art program is VERY intense. Like I said.. I'm not really the one to ask, since I have mostly bad things to say about it XD I've met some really fantastic people here, even if I don't get to see them often. There are a few professors who are really good as well. The University gives you a lot of little benefits, and the fact that's a campus somewhere between suburban and urban is very interesting and unique. Have you applied already/done the portfolio review?

Haha, I'm actually in the BHA program I like it a lot more than just Art (that I was in for my freshman year) because it gives you a very wide breadth of stuff to take, and lets you have so many more options. I do Anthropology along with Art. You get more electives and can take more interesting classes, and focus earlier on the kind of art you want to make. You just have to keep up your grades
If you really like conceptual art, you might really like it here, because they absolutely FLOOD you with it. You are required to take classes called "Concept Studio" where you just make junk that is more about the meaning and concept than anything else. (In Art, you need 8 of them, which includes "Art in Context" and year-long Senior Project) and in BHA you only need 2 of them. And no, CMU doesn't actually prepare you for much of a job when you are out of college. I met a bunch of alumni of CFA at a job fair, and most of them weren't even working in art, most just had "jobs". They totally stress conceptual and technical skill over real-life experience. Like I said, they kind of keep you in an intellectual bubble, that people often don't want to leave The most advice I ever got was "well, get your work out there!" "how?" "get it in galleries!" "how?" "it will happen! trust us!" Yeah. Oh, there's a lot of bad teachers here. But lots of excellent ones too. If you do come here, make sure to take Clayton Merrell for drawing or painting And Golan Levin for electronic arts, and make sure NEVER to take classes with Andrew Johnson!
But like I said, I'm pretty biased. You should come and investigate sometime. Are you from Pittsburgh? And yeah, I think your work has a pretty good chance of getting accepted

Thank you so much for all the info. If I get in, I'll definitly go and check out the school one more time. Very very nice stuff. And oh so your style. Do you realize how unique your work is? I can pick it out easily. Is this done in Painter 9? I keep talking myself out of it but when I see things like this....Very beautiful. It may be smalzy or whatever you call it but I think it is striking and emotional. I do like the point of view. What gets me most is your glowing color choices.

Well, I meant it! Oh, I am getting a bit of attention from science fiction and fantasy press. Would you like me to direct some people to your gallery also for hiring you perhaps? I am also going to have to update my webpage and I was wondering if I could add a link to you here or to your webpage ( you do have one don't you)? Get it prepared if you do with a commission price list, I want to help people out the best I can.

Ok, I will do that. I haven't updated my site in a long time and I plan on completely redoing it also but I will for sure add your link. The author that likes my work said that she has people looking at my work on her vampire anthology page. So, I think if my site is redone better and she sends people my way, they might click on your link. I might be getting ahead of myself but this thougth just hit me, instead of just a link to "my friends" or whatever, maybe a small banner that has a little glimpse of your artwork in it or something? I really don't know much about designing my page ( I had my brother in law to do it), but Ido plan on working on it over Christmas. I think we need to try to get noticed together and if I hear anything I will let you know.

Ok, I will do that but not tonight! I spent all day Christmas shopping and I am pooped out. I am going to try to figure out how to use front page and totally redesign may page over Christmas so that is when I will add these. Did I ever send you that list of small press science fiction and fantasy presses? I emailed a ton of them probably 3 months ago and I just now got a response to see my work from one of them. So, it might take that kind of footwork.

Do you have a banner that I can put on my page as a link you either your works here or your webpage? I haven't gotten to that step yet but I am totally redoing my page and I was going to add links to you and two other artist on here.

Waaah, yay! You know it's been way too long since someone's arted when you have a small aneurysm when you see their latest work.
Their skintones are... how can I put this, fantastic. Although I have no friggin' idea how you managed to work that astounding array of greens, blues, reds, and browns into recognizable and visually fascinating skin, I definitely know it turned out well. Envy, yo! And the dimension on their faces... just awesome. In particular, the lighting on their lips is really something. GAH, hair! Firstly, the smooth strokes on 'em are delicious, and secondly, the lighting is... I hate you.
(And heyo, that billowing clouds buisness going on in the background, previously seen in a previous picture and welcomed back with open arms, is yuuuuuum.)
